True.

But you can also see where the disparaging comments from non-cyclists about middle-aged overweight Cadel fantasists come from. :|

Edit: Even though I think the whole wearing of team kit (and footy jerseys for that matter) is slightly silly, I'm not condoning the sentiment. At least the subjects of derision are out there doing it, chasing their fitness goals. As to those deriding ... no-one ever erected a monument to a critic.

On attire

I thought it was a non-cyclists irrelevancy. Now it seems that it may be more broadly "those who do NOT ride with team kit", including cyclists. And they should know better.

So I point out, as has been done elsewhere, that while people make a derogatory comment about "wannabe racers" and such, people in full footy team kit at the local match do not draw similar ire. And the main difference I can see between the two is that the guy in the full racing gear has either closed the gap with the real team riders or will whereas the fat A$$d team-kitted footy fan is going further and further backwards every time he takes a chunk of his Four and Twenty pie and a swig of his coke.

Lay off the lycra clad brigade. It doesn't affect you or me. It suggests something about the critic rather than the subject of their derision.

End of rant.

No, I do not and never have worn team kit. I do wear a pair of riding knicks. This is a $5 Bintang singlet from Bali.

+1.

I ended up with 2 flats on the way home Wednesday night () and of the 8 people who passed me in that time, all but one of them stopped to check if I was ok or needed any help.

Took a little bit of the sting out of being stuck on the side of the path with a flat tyre! ;)

it's ok - I get myself in enough trouble with my comments around here - just didn't want to be blamed for an all-out war in Brisbane next week

Well after just moving to Toowoomba, i must say that everyone seems to be friendly and say hello around here. Apart from the odd bloke that looks like he takes it pretty seriously.
