Inaugural Dodges Ferry/Carlton ride.

Inaugural Dodges Ferry/Carlton ride.

Postby master6 » Tue Feb 28, 2012 10:14 am

The inaugural Dodges Ferry/ Carlton ride hit the road at 10am this morning. Short, not sharp! Ten Km on an out and back course from downtown Carlton to Dodges Fire Station and return. It is on again at 10am next Tuesday. Start at the Dodges post office. One more rider will increase todays field by 50% :D

Hmmm well some of us have to keep working!

However I like the idea of a Inaugural Cremorne ride capped off with a BBQ and beer at *************** (removed for censoring reasons) house!

Ps: will not be there tomorrow - now tapering for Saturday but shhhhhhhhhh

One feature of this ride is "flexibility".

When would you like it to be?
Do you live in the area?
How far do you like to ride?

Anything is possible :D

Well, maybe if I buy that waterfront block of land my wife likes at Lewisham...

Start training Paul B. If RonK buys that block of land, we might be in for some long rides :D

My place overlooks Park Beach... I reckon a ride to Primrose would make a good start. As I am just getting back on the bike after quite a few years absence, I will need to train for a while first. Currently I am riding to Lewisham shops return (12K) in 30 minutes at avg 23 kph. Feel pretty totalled after that. Have only been back at it for a week though so I expect I will improve in time. I am aiming to get out 3-4 times per week.

Paul, keep up the training, gently. No need to hurt yourself. I am away in QLD at present, back home in Carlton late August. Primrose Sands is a nice ride, either on the highway, or via Carlton River Road. I noticed your thread re buying a bike. What did you settle on? I do the vets ride at Richmond on Wednesday mornings, and have noticed a small group at the Dodges branch of Richmond Bakery around noon, when I am on my way home from Richmond. Not sure what they do.

I ended up buying a second hand Azzuri for 1K. I am enjoying riding it but need to take it into the city and get it correctly set up for me. I also bought a GT Zaskar MTB that McBains are running out at a heavily reduced price. Not for any serious stuff.... just riding casually around the streets and tracks.

Hi Paul. You are always welcome to join us on the Richmond Bakery Wednesday Ride. We have a wide range of talented riders out there with the main group tootling along at 30kph-ish for 60k - but we do have the elite group who ride at lesser speeds and lesser distances of up to 50k. Last week we ended up with three separate bunches on the road so there is usually a choice and the more the merrier. The general intent of the ride is to all finish at around the same time to enjoy the chat and banter over a cup of coffee rather than win a race :!: - who said it was a race  - anyway it suits many purposes for many riders.

Thanks BenevolentDictator. I am aware of the Bakery ride and am working toward a fitness level which will enable me to join in. Aiming for the new year :)

Best wishes. Give me a wave if you see me around Carlton or Sorell. Usually in a plain red long sleeved road shirt. (Yes, I do wash them; have 3 the same :D )
