Advice wanted Delta brakes

Postby Mustang » Tue Jul 24, 2012 8:16 pm

Are these worth buying ?, I dont think they compare to the Delta 5x pivot, circa 1989. (Which apparently worked OK)
I,ve read that early Delta/Croce (spelling) have a reputation of being expensive & not good at stopping???? Can any one date or model these?

What is important? You would only buy these brakes if you were doing a period correct restoration, in which case it doesn't really matter if they work.

I found this how to diagram helpful in setting them up.
They are a bit like lightswitchs, either on or off! Still cool to look at though.

I've got a couple of pairs of Record delta's fitted to bikes. They are both an earlier version to your example although the internal mechanism is very much the same. I have no trouble "stopping" using them but I have never had to stop in a big hurry. I also had a pair of Croc'd'aune callipers fitted to a Merckx and I couldn't get them to "stop". They just looked good. I've since sold the bike and the brakes.

I have just purchased a set for $300 on fleabay - last generation ? 5th without trying to hijack the thread are there specific levers required to operate these brakes - I vaguely remember reading about a quick release button on the side of the levers ??

I understand they work with Ergo levers, which as you say, have the qr button.

Great thread with some links to very good info! 8)

Sorry to hijack the thread, but I have another quick question for the experts: The Campy only site says that the pivot bolt on later versions is adjustable, allowing the entire caliper to be set closer to the wheel. If you set the pivot bolt as high as it could go, and the pads as low as they could go, what is the maximum reach you can get from a set of these brakes?

Cable Attachment Bolt

3.5mm Allen Key You will need this re cable adjustments, usually a special order from your tool shop
Front of Arm Markings

campagnolo winged logo in shield on front cover

Min Reach

39mm

Max Reach

49mm............,From the link I posted above, "maybe" a slight diff' for other models
