Brisbane to Gold Coast rideBrisbane to Gold Coast rideWhen is it, please? I'm doing my holiday roster and reckon it might be a good ride at which to have a crack.

Re: Brisbane to Gold Coast rideIt's a good ride too. Nothing resembling a hill and a fast trip if you get in the right bunch! Highly recommended.
Re: Brisbane to Gold Coast ride
And if you ride back as well that's only 80kms up the V1. Worth doing.
Re: Brisbane to Gold Coast ride
So it's pretty much straight down the freeway? Some days you are a big, strutting rooster, some days you are a bit chicken and some days you are just a complete cocque. Roger Ramjet: 2009 Giant CRX3 Spockette: 2009 Trek FX 7.3 (WSD, property of Mrs Monsoon) Lady Penelope: 2011 Avanti Cadent 1.0 TdF
Re: Brisbane to Gold Coast rideclose, its down the serice road. mostly the V1 which is bikeway from the gold coast to southside of brisbane, with a few side roads.
Re: Brisbane to Gold Coast rideWhat is V1? I have been looking for a route back from Southport for this ride, is there an online map that someone can point me to?

Re: Brisbane to Gold Coast rideM1 is the main road down the coast which then follows up the Gateway Motorway North to the Bruce Highway
M3 is the freeway from Rochedale to the City The V's have had me interested though, I am perplexed at these!

http://www.tmr.qld.gov.au/Travel-and-transport/Cycling/Maps.aspx Queenslands Bike ways, broken up by council area. look at the Gold coast (very detailed) Logan (more like a mud map) and Bisbane (not as bad as Logan, not as good as gold coast)
Re: Brisbane to Gold Coast ride
The easiest way back is to go back the same way that you came down to Southport, except don't do the two dog-leg sections behind Dreamworld or the one through the cane fields at Yatala. Ride up back to Logan Road and at Eight Mile Plains jump back onto the bike path if you want to get off Logan Road. If you search the thread for the 2011 version of this ride you should find some links to Garmin maps... hth Lisa
Brisbane to Gold Coast rideSo who's doing it his year? Was planning to go with a mate who was a pro footballer and now marathon runner but he pulled out to do the Melbourne marathon on the 14th oct. Kind of happy about that, as I surely would have been dropped by him in quick time.
Only been commuting 25-30k per day for about 2 months and wanted to make this my first big ride. Probably go in the 25-30km/h grouping even though I tend to average about 31km/h on my regular rides. Don't want to be gassed and get in everyone's way if I can help it. Would be keen to find a group and see if I can do it between 3-3.5 hrs.
Re: Brisbane to Gold Coast rideI am doing this ride this year...This will be my first year anh hoping many more to come.
I have only been riding since May this year and try and ride 25km to work and back once a week. Weekend just gone i did the Logan City Charity Bike ride which i thought was great..the 40km was the longest ride i have done in one go...i have done 50km in a day but that was a 6hr break between riding to and from work. I am going to start to add a little more distance say 5km each ride between now and 7 Oct so it wont be too much of a shock for me. On a 25km ride i generally average 25km ph but the 40km it was only 22kmph average..i thought that was ok.. i putmyself in the 20-25kmph range for the ride though..i am not sure how to go about a ride plan as i want to push myself but i do not want to burn myself out in the first 50km.. any suggestions?
Re: Brisbane to Gold Coast ride
after riding last year is like to disagree with you. The easiest way is to have a rest.. Maybe a swim and then ride to the station. Once you can climb hills on a bike it's all downhill.
Hopefully I'll know what that's like..... one day. ![]()
Re: Brisbane to Gold Coast rideThat's is the soft option Steve, I'm going to have a crack at riding back I did 125 ks in total on last years ride, will take my go card incase I need to head to the nearest train station. If I leave my car at Daisy Hill it will be the imperial century done.

Re: Brisbane to Gold Coast ride
YOUCH! The problem was last year I rode down with a group of guys and we hammered... (think we averaged over 36k). Then we stuffed around for a bit down there. By the time we got on the road back it was like 10... and getting hot. Some of the people we rode back with were shagged and had to be pushed up hills... we didn't know where to go as we're all northsiders... we got lost, hungry... anyway I ended up getting home at like 3:30 with 225k under the belt. Next time I'll just jump the train. Once you can climb hills on a bike it's all downhill.
Hopefully I'll know what that's like..... one day. ![]()
Re: Brisbane to Gold Coast rideFair enough if you're going to race down...Keith will join you this year if you want a bigger group as that's his plan for this years ride, but he still wants to ride home!
I know the way back and only have to make it as far as 8 Mile Plains to get home...I will have to get some k's done to prepare, the longest single ride to date for me is 136, only another 24 to get the 160 done Lisa
Re: Brisbane to Gold Coast ride
Save yourself and do the Noosa 160. Now that's a nice ride. Once you can climb hills on a bike it's all downhill.
Hopefully I'll know what that's like..... one day. ![]()
Re: Brisbane to Gold Coast rideWell, that's another plan shot. I don't get back from a 10-day business trip to Europe until October 4 and I'm buggered if I'm then going to look at doing a 700km driver to Brisbane the day after I get home.
Maybe next year.
Re: Brisbane to Gold Coast rideA bunch of us are doing it. Hope to start closer to the front, and do sub 2h45m.
Re: Brisbane to Gold Coast ride
Yeah we will be doing Noosa as well, there's plenty of time to recover before May Main thing is to recover before the Noosa Tri at the beginning of the following month, I'll be using the return ride to get used to riding in the hotter part of the day as part of my prep for Noosa....I'm in a team so I won't starting riding until after 10:30 in the morning Lisa
Re: Brisbane to Gold Coast ride
That's the upside about the route back. Plenty of options to duck out of it and ride back on the train. Ormeau, Yatala, Beenleigh, etc? It's not a bad ride back, just have to stay well fed and hydrated. No magic to it.
Re: Brisbane to Gold Coast ride
What team are you in? I'm also doing the Noosa tri, the cycle leg. Could run as well, but being a pom, probably couldn't do the swim...
Re: Brisbane to Gold Coast rideIm in a ladies team, have no idea which category as my friend did all the rego stuff, I know the teams go last!.
Looking forward to it. Lisa
Re: Brisbane to Gold Coast ridehey comedian - am looking at averaging 30km/h this year, then getting the train back
