hey wal, did we go for a riverloop with elantra, max and max's friend one time?

I may be getting 'old timers' in my old age, as it's not striking a chord, I may have as I've been on lots of rides with just random people I don't really know & I do ride a little bit, so forgive me if it's slipped the 'recall' button.

I may leave it till the following weekend, then I can sit up & watch the stage of the TdF, maybe ride the next Raturday, unless there's a list of those going, then I'll just be one more tired old bugger cycling.

ok boys and girls, see you at 6:30, melbourne hotel, browning st, west end.
we are hopefully picking up aaron on his red ganwell at taringa on our way through.
i'll be on my blue and yellow repco - new saddle tonight!

vaeske took his training wheels off a little too soon, and fell of at chandler on tuesday night, so he won't be joining us for the next weekend or two.
and before you ask, his bike's fine 8)

from what i hear, he came off pretty hard, and probably looks something like this:

personally, i think this is probably closer to the truth:

Hey Munga, had a freaking ball this morning, that was one of the most enjoyable rides I've done, great company, nice easy pace & good conversation. I think I'll become another regular on this one.

Here's a few photo's of my Vertex CR1

As you can see it's a fillet welded frame not a lugged frame, the prefix on the frame is WF.

Oh & no you can't have it, it's too big for you, I also want to build it up for myself.

Hi wal, thanks for coming along. made me feel pretty soft, watching you smash every rise on your singlespeed.
elantra brought his repco vertex out again, and even with his corncob he still managed to show me a clean pair of heels at will.
we came across an older guy on his yellow and red repco victory tri-a with some of those funky lemond-style scott drop-in bars.
cam up behind us and the first thing he said was "steel is real!" funny as!
weather was clear, calm and cool, but still quite a few people out. ride was good, coffee was good, company was good.
changed out my turbo saddle for another flite, and suffered numb toes for the second time.
adjusted my cleats when i got home, so we'll see how we go.

where are all the slow guys??

Hi Munga,

Ha, you did alright, 17 PB's for the ride, a few more like that & you'll be slowing down for us.

Picked up the $20 shoes this morning, dead set brand new (still in box with paper stuffing in them)-----

http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll30 ... s005-1.jpg

And I may have gotten a donor for the CR1, not sure, rode it this afternoon (after a quick rear tyre & tube change), spray lots of penetrative spray, little bit of car polish & a liberal dose of chain lube (the chain was super rusty) & a set of VP strap pedals I had sitting around, I'd forgotten how bad brakes used to be all those years ago, but I give you a Malvern Star Kenetic, no word of a lie it cost me $100. May just stick some decent brake calipers, some new cables & some bar tape, I may even keep the springer seat as it just suits (and is lovely on the gluts).

Is there any retro riding on sundays? I usually work on saturdays but eventually i'm going to have to call a sicky and make the trip down there to join in.

Hi Lachlan, not sure what others do on Sundays but i sometimes do a shop ride with blokes on carbon or aluminium bikes.
I prefer my modern bike for these rides because its like driving a car with an automatic gearbox - compared to fiddly downtube shifters on the Repco.
There might be some single speed group or shop rides on Sundays, and there is this event on Sunday the 12th which might tempt you to head south for the day

I missed the MB100 last year, and sadly it looks like this year will be the same, too much work to be done and not enough money. Sad panda. I'll just have to be patient for the time when i can get down for a raturday.

The Farrago is brilliant. It's my favourite bike. My practical urban commuter. I'd take a pic but my camera is broken.

I'm in, my shout for cafe` afterwards, I won't can't make it for the next 3 weekends after Rat because of work, so if I don't go this Rat it's a month before my next chance.

wild hogs?
ha!
more like two frozen piglets this morning.
after consultation with the team physician, it has been deemed appropriate to open up the question of start times during winter.
it turns out that frostbite is not a sign that i am h'ing tfu, but that it's simply very cold.

all those in favour of a later start time can meet us at the melbourne hotel (opposite "gear brisbane" bike shop), browning st, west end at 7:20-7:30 for a Rat.
here's my strava for the last riverloop we did (for reference of pace and duration):

all those against can drive their concrete trucks whenever they like.

Pah - wimps. It wasn't that cold this morning, and winter is almost over. Besides it's going to be windy next weekend so best get the ride over early.

Hi Ron, don't recall seeing you at any of our previous 4 rides.
Maybe you were off driving concrete trucks while we were exercising our chicken legs.
Don't listen to Ronk, guys - he just wants you to be cold and sad.

hehe, no, my Chesini won't be ready for the road any time soon. It's slow and expensive process accumulating period correct nos Campy components. I cursed myself last week when I let a complete Super Record brake set slip through my fingers for the sake of about $50.
I was out there yesterday (and today) on my Van Nicholas tourer, which is of course much too modern to appear in your company.

Well those that have had their fill of concrete can start at 6.30am, I'm out for the next 3 weeks but 7 or 7.30 is fine by me, it's not as if we're trying to ride TdF speeds, it's all about a nice relaxed ride, good company & good conversations, I'm up whatever time, if that's later, then it's all good by me.

i'm all for the idea that if we start early, we finish early, which means more time to do other stuff. But i'm happy either way. Really hoping to get on the bike this time...doesn't feel good after 2.5 weeks of pub transport to work.
