NOTE : As of 1'st July, the competition CLOSED. Only people in this list will continue to be in the running total.
Besides which, I think mikesbytes has it pretty much sewn up. Although a couple of chasers still haven't returned to the peleton... we'll see.
Gawd, I hope this is correct... people kept on interrupting me. Some of these won't match what people think their running total is - sometimes upwards because they posted more flats that they remember, but in some cases people claimed their running total was higher than I could account for. But - I have just worked out FINALLY how to get advanced search to return the posts for this thread (can't handle the "2012" in the search), so I can go back and check if people think the total is incorrect. PM me if you think there needs to be a correction.

One more for me, shard of glass in the rear tyre. Big mongrel too, about 4x5 mm. It wasn't a blowout tho', me Gator got me almost 5kms home before it was too flat to ride. The hole in the tube was barely bigger than a pinhole.
That's THREE.

I'm on the Dynon Rd path and spinning well, the rain's stopped and I'm outta the wets and loving the zzz of slicks on wet pavement. Passing the railyards, I'm crossing the tollways ramps when I spot the glitter of smashed glass on one of the islands, a twitch of the bars to avoid has me straight over the top of the stump of a sign sticking up about 4cms. Total and instant loss of air from the front. Investigation revealed a 12mm gash in the front tyre No way that's getting fixed and still getting in on time, I walked the few hundred m to NME station and trained the last km. Here's hoping the patch in the tyre holds up to get me home and me Wiggle order of a pair of shiny new UltraGators arrives tomorrow, the tracker says they're in Melbs already *xfingers*
Wonder which mobs desk I can bang on about that particular hazard?
That's FOUR.

lmao.mikesbytes wrote:How the frig did I end up 6 ahead of Kev, have they banned bikes on the M4 ?
Just to correct you there Mike, I ride the M5 not the M4, and bike are still allowed.....at least until they widen it to 3 lanes ("Stuff the Cyclist" upgrade).
Oh, and now you're only 5 ahead.
+1
Was on the M5 (typical) just before the toll plaza heading west when I hit something small but sharp that put a 30mm slash right through the sidewall of my Maxxis Refuse.
Spent 5 minutes looking for the offending object but couldn't find it. Spent another 5 minutes looking for something to put inside the tyre to stop the new tube ballooning out, but couldn't find anything suitable. Luckily, I had a business card from Cycling Australia in my backpack which did the job nicely until I got home.
Another Refuse bites the dust, but I reckon I got about 15,000km out of it.
New Total = 12 at 487km per flat.
Kev.

My first flat of the year, and it was a valve failure rather than a puncture. Noticed my rear tyre was a little flat so stopped. Released the valve and it released all the way out. It is one of those replaceable inner valve thingamy bobs and I have another couple like it, so the tube is not wasted, yay!
Replaced tube and continued to work.
1 flat, ~7160km this year before the flat. I knew it had been a while, but totally shocked at this.

Got back to my bike this afternoon and the back had a piece of glass in it and was totally flat. Repaired it in record time as I had to get to a dentist appt.

Wow, 7160 km and just one flat, and that a tube fault rather than a tyre fault. You've gotta tell us, what brand tyre ?simonn wrote: 1 flat, ~7160km this year before the flat. I knew it had been a while, but totally shocked at this.

A rear Conti GP4000s with 3023 km on it fell victim to the M5 rubbish dumpers just east
of the Belmore Rd off-ramp. It was the tyre's first puncture. A staple was protruding from edge
of tread - could hardly blame the black cat or the tyre for not resisting bogan rubbish like that;
there was a crate and other stuff smashed over a wide area so it was pretty hard to find a safe way through it.
Motorists bang on about cyclist breaking the law, but the debris strewn all along the road shoulders
is proof a damned lot of them don't give a fig for obeying littering laws or securing their loads
legally. Phew, got that of my chest.
S'pose another thing I should be grateful for is that I'm nowhere near threatening the leaderboard.
Cheers

Same tyre was flat the day after I last got a flat. I put the tube to the side wondering if a previous repair or something else caused it. Just checked it and it has a pinch flat.
Another flat yesterday on the way home from work. I have a commute bike with Maxxis Refuse tyres on it, but somehow the Orbea with GP4000s is more fun to ride... Taking it through an industrial estate twice daily isn't all that smart it seems
