Hi all,
I found a set of Shimano 600 groupset for $200 and was wondering if they are worth it? its going on my new build which will be a 2000+ year bike. Just making sure it should all match in well.

Have you bought it online or in person?
I'm still running Shimano 600 Ultegra on my current bike. I've had to change the rear-derailleur (the rear springs and pivots were shot) and both chainrings are bent. Front shifters still work though (provided you blow WD-40 through them every now and then).
I'd make make sure the rear derailleur still feels nice and tight and check the shifting mechanism.

Still in the process of buying them but it would be in person.
Do they still look quite new in design? Would they look similar next to the current ultegra designs?

Nothing like the current models. The cranks use a square taper bottom bracket (not hollowtech). Chainrings aren't hollow either. Shifters look completely different.

Honestly I'd just buy a brand new 105 Groupset off the internet for about $600. The ergonomics of the shifters and braking performance are on a different planet to a groupset that was designed almost 20 years ago. Unless you are specifically building a 'retro bike'.

Shimano 600 covers quite a broad time period from "Arabesque" with downtube friction shifters to "tricolour" which morphed into Ultegra, is grey metallic and had STI shifters.
All pretty good.
Cheers,
Peter
