It isn't the first time we have reached this mark and have about 10,000 inactive members - not to mention the spammers who get deleted quickly and don't count.

Does the 10,000th member get a prize? Like and upgrade to BNA Platinum or something? Where's the streamers and the party whistles?

don't want to burst your bubble , but can't really say that there is 10,000 active mebers
there might be 10,000 members , but only a very small fraction of that 10,000 are active

Too many members. I get back from a shift and I've got 3 pages to wade through. Most of them are either trying to buy or sell something, or yet another "which road bike" thread.

As usual, it takes a pessimist to see the down sides.

I agree with Biftek, there are probably only a few hundred or so who are really active here after their questions have been answered.

You are right - almost none of the members are active - most are just sitting down behind a computer screen.

http://www.bicycles.net.au/forums/memberlist.php?

If you do a search by post count and descending, you'll see that at the end of the page the post count is down to ~2500. Even I'm the 20th biggest time waster on here. So not too many regulars.

Oh well.. if the advertisers take the figures on face value... Good luck to 'em.

Lurking = Active, obviously.

Whoever said you need to actually post here to be active?

Nobody ( ) said it specifically. But active by definition means to be engaged or characterised by action. I would assume [dangerous word to use] that there would be some evidence of this action besides just a the read count going up. Obviously some of us have a different definition of action.

Glass half empty?

Are 10,000 members active at any one time ? no
Is there a smaller core of members who visit the site more than once a week? yes
Do members who signup and participate once still get an advantage? yes
Do people just visiting get value from the information in the forum? yes

At the end of last year I deactivated thousands of members who were not active within a 3 month period (because of hack attacks), so have 12,000 inactive members who have participated at some stage though not within the last year.

So within the period of a year or so, 10,000 people have been active in the forum... and at any one time, 80% of the people viewing the forum are not logged-in (i.e. guests) and there are over 1 million page views a month. That said, I couldn't include this all in the title and still feel that it is a pretty good milestone.

I browse the forum way more regularly than I log in.
Being of little experience don't have much to add to the conversation.
Learn heaps from browsing regularly tho.
Many thanks to all those active members who post so much useful info here.
