10K PLUS club 2012
Postby gabrielle260 » Sun Jul 08, 2012 8:28 pm
Yes, like you, I find there are w***ers everywhere. But I also have found there are plenty of people who are keen to learn, people who want to help others, people who want to put back in what they have got out of sport. Those are the people that make up for the w***ers.
The most fulfilling thing I have ever done in cycling was coaching the first Cogs Girls Cycle Skills Course - seeing how those women took on the challenge of learning new skills has kept me motivated when those other buggers get me down!
Thanks Wal, writing this has motivated me to get out of bed tomorrow morning!

Sounds like a pretty standard charity ride WalWal42 wrote:Seeing a lot of excuses, are you guys soft or something?
Haven't been riding the Trek much, been commuting on the Dolan, so much easier to maintain a fixie especially on those rainy days we've just experienced in Brissie, lube the chain, wipe the frame down with penetrative spray & wipe the tyres/rims over with vinegar, check the tyre pressures & it's ready for the next day, all up about 20 minutes maintenance.
Had some interesting experiences of late, went up to help out a team at the Tour of Toowoomba, rode training rides with them, then rode the Tour of Toowoomba charity ride, then rode the MS Brissie to Bay the following weekend. The amount of 'experts' that couldn't ride a carnival ride doing these charity events thinking they're some kind of pro, watched one goose dive down the outside of everybody who was braking trying to out brake everybody, what he managed to achieve was ripping the tyre of his very expensive lightweight wheels (the guy looked heavier than I, I'm over 100kgs & won't use lw wheels) as he tried to corner & brake at the same time, then destroy the wheel, crash onto the ground probably wrecking his frame too.
I also had these types coming up next to me 'crowding' me trying to catch the draft of the bike in front, I was well behaved, but in future I'll be 'educating' these guys what happens in track racing when someone tries 'crowding' you.
I noticed on a forum some of these pros complaining about the social riders riding all over the road getting in their way, I'd much rather ride around a bunch of social riders than these 'experts' their ego's are writing cheques their skill level can't cash.
I think from now on I'll ride the fixie in these charity rides or I'll just donate to the charity & do a similar distance ride on the other side of town.
Yep not only do I take wonderful people on the interweb too seriously but it appears I take all 'expert' cyclists way too seriously.
But then what the fark would I know, I'm just a 'casual' cyclist.
If you made it to the finish line without incident then consider it a bonus
Cheers,
Stuart.

Ah why the heck not. Just read it and free access to Bicycling Australia #177 via Zinio download for anyone that participates. Lucky my legs haven't really lost the long distance that I put into them before 2-3 weeks off. Oh yeah haven't been updating bikejournalDavidTomic wrote:First day of the Every Second Counts challenge today, so I'm back to the early morning starts again in order to try and fit in enough K's.

Oh shoot, Audax the long flat one is outside the dates. Training for that one, 400km ride would be my best effort.

Hey LTR, no problems here.Livetoride wrote:Hey Stuart, what's going on mate, just noticed I've passed you??? You sick???
I haven't updated BJ for a couple of weeks - I think I'm somewhere around the 12,300km mark at the moment.
Have started doing a bit more running and swimming so cycling k's have dropped back a lot.
Looking for a half marathon pb at the end of this month and 70.3 pb in October. Also hoping the Perth weather improves A LOT for tommorow's bike ride!!
It's been very quiet in here recently!

Now all I have to do is win Lotto so I can retire and ride at a more gentlemanly hour of the day. Mind you, I do enjoy the early rides - quiet roads, full moon settings and great sunrises over the ocean.

My update- when I cycle 100m on my to work shortly I will pass my target for the year (25000kms), what are you softies doing??
Come on you lot giddy up!
Rode Moreton Bay 100 on the weekend, as I said about some people who ride charity rides in my last post, some shouldn't ride a merry-go-round, I had to politely ask more than half a dozen blokes to move away from my side as I didn't feel confident in their bike handling abilities to have them riding 2mm from my shoulder, 2 guys I had to put the track racing shoulder/elbow/hip/knee shove onto them to convince them I wasn't joking. I'll no longer be riding the modern (well 2003 is modern isn't it? ) Team racer in these events, I'll either ride my fixed gear training bike or one of my retro bikes, 'serious pro riders' won't go anywhere near somebody on a retro bike, it doesn't matter how fast it's going, you can't be sucking a retro bikes wheel because you're lame (well that's their opinion of retro or fixed gear bikes , they're not the current model with all the best & lightest gear so they've got to be super slow . Haven't they? Or atleast that's what the guy sitting in the cafe said.), yep if I didn't enjoy riding so much I'd give up cycling altogether, but then all these guys will vanish again once cycling isn't 'cool' anymore & driving around with the absolute latest release on top of your $100K euro car, isn't the 'chic' thing to do.
Yeah, I've become a cranky old man, who'd a thunk?
Anyway enough of my gripes, stop reading my shite & get out there on your bikes ya lazy bunch of sods.

0°C is cold. To think we were complaining last week when it got down to 3°

Chapeau to anyone riding in Melbourne this morning - it was cold, very wet and windy... At times I felt the bike move sideways as it gusted.
3 weeks time I'll be in Byron Bay and hopefully doing some serious kms to boost the total.
Don't know about anyone else but I am tired of cleaning bikes... I want this winter to end!!
