So that means 1: it's about bloody time and 2: there will be some 2nd hand ones coming on the market by the end of the year.

Although I wonder if you could shave a few kg out of a Roto by removing most of the frame and replacing the left over bits with alloy. I reckon that shell could be made to be pretty stiff. If a standard rubbish bin is anything to go by, a couple of moulded ribs would make that puppy light and rigid (and cheaper). The only metal bits would be related directly to the steering (debatable), to the suspension (again debatable given that plastic flexes), the BB and mount and the wheel components. Sub the moulded wheel covers for fabric and things start to take shape. But what do I know?

Oh, and give it a little more camber on the front and what about an air dam, filling in the gaps, narrower tail end, anti-vortex extensions at the back, air disturbance strip over the front nose (for cross winds), polished duco and a few other little tricks to reduce aero drag. Hmmmmmmmmmmmm!

So, do you wait 3 months and spend another $3,000 for a suspended Roto or buy a secondhand one now?

Ben tried a whole lot of different setups on the RV initially in terms of frame and running gear but came back to his simple cro mo crucifix frame.

Yeah, I still look at other designs and see that they can make it work well. I'm not convinced that the RV can't be made lighter and cheaper with some in-built ribbing etc. Maybe injection moulded could do it. I might have to ask a mould maker friend of mine for his opinion.

BTW with a bit more research, rotomoulding is cheap for small runs and has some contol over final thickness.

It's the initial tooling (mold) development that involves all the $$$.
