Neatly done Paul.
That looks like it will do the trick nicely. I'd not seen that sort of sensor with two parts. Some people had altered the Garmin unit which is single piece but it is a bit fragile and nowhere as neat as yours.

Thanks John.

Yes, the Garmin unit didn't look like it would take too kindly to being deconstructed. This Wahoo unit seemed perfect for the job. I got the idea from the DC Rainmaker site some time ago and thought that it would be worth attempting, particularly for video overlay data. Thanks for the input regarding the Reed switch - lucky I checked!

Cheers,

Paul

Hi Paul,

Yes if I ever get my hands on one of those Garmin GPS units I would probably go the same way.
I have a little MainNav 600 but it doesn't have the bluetooth so is a bit restricted.

Just a thought. I think you may have one of the soldered links outside the mango in the wheel well. It might be in order, if so, to put a smear of neutral cure silicon around the ends of the heatshrink to prevent any moisture getting in.

Excellent idea, thanks John. I already did this the other day as I wasn't happy with the waterproofability (?) of that heat shrink! :)

Thanks again for all the input, it is much appreciated.

Coming home in my velo today up a bit of a hill approaching the right turn into my street when the bright green lamborgini (licence plate "SCARY 1") from the big house at the end of the street, is approaching to pull out. I am recovering from the flu so was taking it very easy and only doing about 20km/h. He had loads of time to go before I got there but he saw me early (everyone does :) ) and was happy to stop and wait and check me out.

As I took the corner across in front of him, I looked over to give him a wave of thanks and all I could see back was that unmistakable nod of respect !!! All part of living with a velomobile...

Damn I wish I had been filming.

Great video, looks like a ripper of a ride.

Good one Rhubarb. Looks like a long climb but coming down would have been fun.
That rattle in the vid. I was getting a rattle and it was my Turbo Morph pump rattling on the floor even though I had it in an old sock. Another was a zip fastener tag rattling on the body. Noisy as for such a small thing.

John.

So does that comment mean that your RE has arrived?

Questions

Whats the timeframe from ordering to delivery for the Mango RE
Is it possible to get it with twin front headlights?
Did we ever find out if there was a charge for a different colour (from the standard pallet)?
Are the drum brakes hydraulic or cable?
Did anyone get the dynamo hub option?

In answer to your questions:
- Varies. Mine was roughly four months from paying deposit to taking delivery (some have arrived faster, some slower)
- Yes.
- Yes, apparently an extra 200 Euro for a different colour. I'm kinda hoping *someone* will order a different looking one in Australia...
- Bowden cable drums. Easy maintenance. You can also have cable discs or hydraulic discs. You'll want two separate systems as to lose hydraulic fluid with a single system would mean no brakes at all...
- Not that I'm aware of. Would be good for touring.

My Mango arrived last Thursday.......

We collected it from Tullamarine airport - used an agent and it took 10 minutes to collect the airway bill and then find the depot and load it into the Transit......

A Mango in shipping box, just fits in a Transit SWB van......we had to put the seats as far forward as possible but it goes.

Expertly packed in the heaviest cardboard known to man !! How can a 30kg Velo weight 84kg ?

Thanks to a very good friend, Smithers - for his van and muscles for doing the lifting and heavy unpacking - I have a glass back !!

The last picture shows the messy garage with all the toys......

Yayyyy!!!

Looks good.

Maybe you could use the cardboard to build a little nest for the Wee Beastie to sleep in. Just give it a coat or two of gloss paint to repel the water.
