It's downhill for me after 20km Or uphill after 500m on way home
What I find a killer is the frequent hazards of people who don't keep left, overtake uphill into head on traffic coming downhill at speed, groups riding 2 side by side uphill taking over the downhill lane.

Worst offenders are people getting on halfway down who just dont look before getting onto the path.

I know it's an overtake, but out on the trails uphill is given precedence due to the fact that it's much easier to get going downhill. Perhaps downhill riders should be aware of the hazards and take caution, rather than cranking it down at 50k's plus.eldavo wrote:overtake uphill into head on traffic coming downhill at speed

That means reasonably slow and pedestrians are the priority and always have right of way.
In WA there is no wrong side for peds, they can walk any side they like and cyclists must GIVE WAY.
I know this path and hill from cycling with young kids and the fast idiots were a danger to all users and actually abused young children for daring to overtake up hill - Say What.
On a shared path a cyclist must give way to any pedestrian on OR CROSSING the path (which also means entering) - Go figure how you do that at speed.

Even I can make it and the only reason it is overly difficult for me is because, like so many concrete tracks, it's slope varies over short distances (a killer for me). Kings Park road about as steep.Pravda wrote:As far as hills go it's pretty tame. Try Mount St if you want something really tough.
Perhaps one day I will try Mount Street. I suspect I would not make it.
Relatively speaking, Perth has it really easy. We don't even have a winter. (Kudos to all those who are still riding thru August, and there are plenty who do.)

Worst offenders are those coming down so fast that by the time you've entered the track at the halfway point you've got some joker right up your ass

Actually, not always. "It depends". Conventions change according to locality and trail type.Shifter wrote:I know it's an overtake, but out on the trails uphill is given precedence due to the fact that it's much easier to get going downhill.
DH and AM trails it's often the descending rider that has ROW.

I detoured off to South Perth from the Freeway PSP via the footbridge just past the golf course. Going up is fine, but my aging knees REALLY do feel it on the way down.
(BTW, wasn't Perth a great place to ride today?)
