Single Speed Wheelset Question - Quick release option?

Postby razon » Thu Aug 23, 2012 11:13 am

Hey.. just wandering if you can change the normal bolt skewers on my ss into a quick release skewers?
I've been using it more often as a commuter and was thinking it'll be hard to change the tube or repair the tube in case of a puncture.. Just trying to avoid in bringing a wrench :|

agreed. Not all axles are the same (pitch and thread etc) so that affects the cones, locking washers etc, and QR means your wheels are easier/quicker to steal. Dave is right, carry a 15mm spanner with your spare tube etc

Doesn't need to be big, just get quality . I ebayed 15mm sidchrome open end/ring end spanner, cut it I half and rounded the cut. Ringone fits in my undersaddle bag with c02 and tube.

Certainly carrying a spanner is an option. However a set of these is, in my opinion a far better option and looks far more cool.

It would not be at all strange if history came to the conclusion that the perfection of the bicycle was the greatest achievement of the nineteenth century.
