Recovery Drinks

Postby 15wilsonwu » Wed Aug 22, 2012 7:06 pm

Does any of you use some sort of recovery drink? I'm trying to decide wether if I should try it out or not cause I dont think it makes such a difference.

Thanks,
Wilson

I find a long black quite refreshing after a hard ride :)

On a hot day I'll have a Powerade or similar, otherwise it's just plenty of water.

Dépends what you are recovering from. For training I just eat and drink normal stuff. But I do find them handy after a race / on a stage race / when finishing a training ride far from home... As I want to get the recovery process started quickly after a hard effort and not an hour or so later when I get home.
I have a free supply of SIS stuff so use that... Usually chuck a small bottle of long life milk in the car to mix with the powder when ready plus a can of fruit to get some easy to digest carbs in.

They are all much the same to me... I like my recovery drinks with milk, but the SIS ones are good with water as well unlike some I have tried!.

If you can't explain it simply, then you don't understand it well enough.

Have you tried Dextro before? and if you have, how does SIS compare to it?

+1. Read some sciencey stuff a while back and the choc milk was recommended as the best value recovery drink.

Then I suggest you to try it out. Even though it's my first and only sports nutritient supply, I must say that it tastes pretty good on my scale.

By the way, does the SIS Go Energy come with a scoop or something? cause it looks like it doesnt since it's in a bottle. And if it doesnt, how do you measure how much you need without using the SIS bottle? like, does it say how much grams of powder you need per ... milliliters?

It's like a milkshake for me as I mix it with milk. Why milk?... I don't know but I struggle to eat after big efforts and that is one of the few things I have an appetite for.

I started using Hammer's Recoverite about 12mths ago and found it made a huge difference to me.
I don't use it after every ride but i do use it for rides over 2 - 3hrs+ and before using it i was really tired after a big ride for the rest of the day or sometimes weekend, now i take it as soon as i finish the ride, it's just a powder added to water, and it works a treat.
I guess it depends on how serious you want to get, i was just using gatorade or water but decided to ditch them for the Hammer products as a riding friend was raving about them, i did some reading about them and they seemed good and they made a huge difference to me personally, a month before last years around the bay i decided to go just with them and completed it in good time with no other energy bars or food and felt great after the recovery drink so i can't argue with that.

Cheers,

Brett...

I mash up a banana into a glass of milk. Thinking of getting some cocoa powder to add to it next time I'm going to the super market.

After training I just eat and drink my regular food but I make sure I have some extra portion of protein.
