Dura ace c50 vs zipp 404i got my heart set on some duraace c 50 clinchers and went to my lbs to have a bit of a drool and they have some zipp 404 with alum braking surface they could offer me for a bit cheaper, anyone ride on the zipps and do they think they are better than the duraace?
Re: Dura ace c50 vs zipp 404Zipp wheels with the alloy track have q bad rep for cracking around the nipples. I have seen one occassion where the breaking track lifted on a long climb.
Plus zipp hubs are crap. The C50's are quite abut heavier bur are more durable. Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710a using Tapatalk 2 James

Re: Dura ace c50 vs zipp 404Mr MM has a set of Zipps which wont get a good review from me sorry to say, however his pair could be a complete pair of lemons as his mate as a set and hasn't had a problem.
Mr MM's on the other hand have had both rims replaced, rear wheel keeps going out of tru even after going back to Zipp for repair...and on todays ride the rear hub failed in an epic way breaking 3 spokes in the process and causing paint damage to his frame Zipp have been very good and repaired the past problems however they're going to have to come through in a big way after today Lisa
Re: Dura ace c50 vs zipp 404I think i might wait a bit to find out a bit more about the zipp's, How about Fast forward f6r how are these compared to the other wheels????
Re: Dura ace c50 vs zipp 404Have both... Similar performance, vastly different quality....
I have found the 188 zipp hubs to be total crap... U will find my pics here on the forum of 2 rear 188 hubs which have self destructed... Echelon sports have been just ok with their support... Conversely the C50s have been good, I did have a problem with the rear rim of my C50s (7850)... Sent them back after 18months and Shimano Aust replaced them no questions asked with a new 7900 set... Can't argue with that... Another wheelset to consider is some ENVE rims laced to a good hub... Ie Alchemy, Chris King, DT Swiss or the like... Would out perform both the above, for not too much more...
Re: Dura ace c50 vs zipp 404+1 for Enve but they don't make hoops with aluminium brake surface.
I'm guessing the OP wants wheels with aluminium brake surface since both the C50 and 404 clinchers have them. yes, I'm an overweight weight weenie

Fast Forward are owned by Campagnolo so I would guess quality would be pretty good. yes, I'm an overweight weight weenie

Re: Dura ace c50 vs zipp 404
Will see how we go, lbs is contacting them on our behalf....both wheels have already had the rims replaced! Our friends has the same wheel set, rides the same roads at a similar intensity and his haven't had a problem...I think Mr MM's might be the odd pair of lemons! Lisa
Re: Dura ace c50 vs zipp 404Well, iam after something with an alum braking surface and lbs would offer me a great price for the zipps, as i would prefer to buy from them instead of online, just with the mixed review on them just not to sure???? I currently use Mavic Ksyrium Elite and would like to upgrade my road bike so i can put the mavics on my commuter.
Re: Dura ace c50 vs zipp 404DA are great all round clincher
Heavier but bullet proof. Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2 S-Works Venge
Re: Dura ace c50 vs zipp 404
As far as I know Fast Forward are a Dutch company not owned by Campag. My lbs recommended enve over zipps. A wise choice - custom built on tune hubs with 45 mm rims. Been great. Sent from my A500 using Tapatalk 2
Re: Dura ace c50 vs zipp 404I was told Campy brought out FF a while ago by a bike mechanic so I could be wrong.
I have a set of custom built Edge/Enve 45 clinchers on Tune Mig45/Mag150 hubs also. At 1239grams with Veloplugs they're very light for clinchers. After 3yrs of flawless use I'd almost say they're as bombproof as DA wheels. The 1663grams for the C50 and 1658grams for the 404s puts me off. These are manufacturer claimed weights, real weight would most likely be heavier. I guess if you want aluminium brake surfaces and deep rims on clinchers there are no lightweight options. yes, I'm an overweight weight weenie

Re: Dura ace c50 vs zipp 404I have a pair of both, but in the tubluar variety. I'm a big bloke and have no trouble with either. If I was told to choose I would go with the Zipps tbh. They seem to roll better and are definately better in a cross wind. Both are very good though.
I ride several bicycles, but not at once.
Re: Dura ace c50 vs zipp 404Update re the Zipps...Mr MM took them in to the distributor today, the hubs on both wheels are going to be replaced with the latest version and the spoke nipples are getting an upgrade as well....so far the service has been good, let's hope that is the last problem with these wheels!
Lisa
Re: Dura ace c50 vs zipp 404
Update, the wheels came back today, it looks like they've been completely replaced....Mr MM had a 303/404 set and now both wheels are 404's. Pretty happy with that! Proof will be if they stay problem free Lisa
