UDi2 vs DADi2 - any difference in fuctionality?

I'm thinking of upgrading my 6700 mech group to UDi2. I've only ever test ridden DADi2, is there any differences in functionality between U and DA electronic groups?

The new UDi2 is a big improvement over the orginal Di2

- no need to heat seal connections
- Wiring kit is more adjustable
- ability to add more shifting points

Mind you they are not interchangeable in any way. The UDi2 will work with the new 9070 Di2

I have ridden both. While Ui2 has design advances, the servos in the FD and RD are 'off the shelf' and not custom made like the Di2, so are larger which makes it ugly. Despite what one reviewer said, the front shifting on Ui2 is waaay slower (well somewhat slower) than Di2. The new DADi2 will have the same design advances as Ui2 and then some and will be the bizz, but it will also be expensive. Ui2 is half the price of Di2 and is the better value.

Get along to the Giant demo day at Stromlo in late Sep and try out Ui2 yourself on the crit track for a good 45min. That's my plan anyway . Pitty they won't have any of the new DA 9070 stuff there though

You can't, not easily like with DA Di2

Why?

I was under the impression that the shifters have the required spare port and at the momment a remote style shifter was available.

Not being funny, I don't own the system as yet but it what i want to run on my new build.

DA Di2 is a simple momentary switch, Ui2 is not.

I know what they are but you can't just make them like you can with Di2. DA Di2 send s simple pulse down a dedicated wire from each button to the brains. Ui2 sends a different signal type from each button down a wire to the brains. Without knowing the signal type required for each button, and having a method of making it, you can't simply make extra buttons.

thanks for the answers, but do you realise the link was for a satellite shifter for Ultegra Di2 not Dura ace? not trying to be argumentative, but believe if they can make a satellite shifter work then they should be able to get sprint shifters working, happy to be corrected

From your link I think this line pretty much sums it up

You could use the SW-R600 as spint shifter but it would look pretty bulky and be uncomfortable when sprinting in the drops.

You original question came across as asking has anyone in the cycling community hacked together some sprint shifters, the answer is no and it isn't easy. Will Shimano do it? Yes they will, once the new DA Di2 comes out the accessories will (should be anyway) be compatible with Ui2.

I was not after a hacked version of the sprint shifters or using the satellite shifter as sprint shifters, just wanted to know if anyone had seen any aftermarket companies listing sprint shifters for it.

The new di2 (both UDi2 & DADi2 9070) have chips in the system that use CAN bus protocol. That's how the shifter buttons can be reprogrammed to move any derailleur in any direction, and how the computer connection kit can detect point to faults at exactly which components are faulty.
