re my previous two posts in this thread... Like a dog with a bone I come up with one possible reason for the 2kg weight loss in a day. Might have been well hydrated the previous day... rather than dehydrated on the next day.
Keep flexing, spinning, rolling, coasting, pushing, pulling, drafting, sprinting, time trialling, touring, climbing, descending, hot dogging, crit-ing, racing, weaving, dodging, dropping, tanking, chasing... but most of all - just keep f'ing riding!

Hi Guys, Just recently joined this forum but I have been a lurker for quite a while I thought I might share my weight loss that I have been undergoing over the last 10 months or so, which really kicked into gear in February this year when I purchased my first bike a Trek 3500. Age: 22 Height: 182cm Start Weight: 178.2kg (October 2011) Start pictures... (yeah ouch) Current Weight: 123.9kg Current Pictures: Average daily distance, ~20km but I do change the route quite often and some of that is along MTB trails, I am looking froward to increasing that some more as I am in the process of purchasing a new bike now. Cheers, Chris.

Congratulations Chris, you are doing an amazing job! Keep up the great work. I've lost 63kg in the last 16 months and wish I had been smart enough to do it at your age, instead of waiting until I was old enough to be your mother.

Nice work Talking to a guy at work I commented how he'd lost some weight. He said 8kg over 2 months. What's your secret? I ask... "The death of my 4 month old daughter"

Awesome work - that's a lot of weight you've lost! Keep it up! I might have mentioned before - at one point I was nearly 90kg for a height of about 175cm (a couple of years ago). I'm now at 65kg and completely happy with that. Now I'm working on doing longer rides and higher average speeds. I use Garmin Connect and it's awesome to track the progress. Cycling is easily the most fun way to lose weight.

Just noticed this thread and thought I'd add my own story:
Age: 21 Height: 181cm (6 foot) Start weight: 87kg Started cycling: April 30th 2012 (9km, at less than 20km/h and could hardly walk after) Currently cycle 200km+/wk as well as run Current weight: 71kg
I have adjusted my diet somewhat as my weight loss has plateaued, now I am seeing a continued loss. I am aiming for 70kg and then am planning on starting some strength training to bulk up.
I am currently the skinniest I can remember. It is very strange to have a totally flat stomach!

I was drinking and eating too much for 2-3 mths til end of June. On July 30, I knuckled down to 1500 Cal diet, then had holiday where vegan eating and meditation featured heavily (and very little exercise), and was eating around 1000Cals. I've lost 1.5kg a week, for total loss of 6.8kg.
I aimed to lose 1kg a week, however over the holiday I really lost my cravings for the bad stuff, and have been comfortable eating less. Had got up to 91.4kg, but am now back to 84.8. My Tanita scales say my bodyfat is 20%, and my waist is 97cm.
Goal is to get weight to 78kg, waist around 85cm, and bodyfat 10-12%.
I used to do healthy smoothies years ago, and am getting back into those as a super nutrient dense meal replacement for one meal a day. What I am having this morning: 1C water 1/2C soy milk 5g of almonds 5g each of these seeds- sunflower, pumpkin, flax, sesame. 1/2 banana 1/2 orange 1/2 lemon mint, parsley a few leaves of bok choy stalk of broccoli 1/2 a large kale leaf 20g fresh strawberries 50g mixed frozen berries 3g brewers yeast 5g ginger 5g soy flour
That makes up around 400 Cals and leaves me room for morning tea, for a desired 500 Cal morning intake.

Forgive me Losers, for I have sinned. I recently discovered that certain Oreo biscuits are vegan, and have since overindulged in same. However, I am pleased to report that I am now able to ride over 50km on a 'regular' morning ride, which is a vast improvement. I can go that far without eating, thanks to my massive Oreo-induced fat stores. Husband keeps helping/sabotaging by providing more Oreos. Hmmm.

I lose more weight couching around with a cold, eating comfort food than i do exercising 90 min a day after work and counting my calories. Bring on some gastro!

cbalfe - that is a HUUUUUUGE change! Go you. you don't even look like the same dude. I bet you must be feeling tops now. i mean compared to before.
its really good when i see people who have done it your way (ie slow and steady) rather than a cable tie round their guts. I know its each to their own and all, but i admire those who've done it themselves far more. you should aim to get to 78 kilos to round off a whole hundred. that would be awesome if you got to that!

Well done guys!
Don't just go purely by weight..many things affect this such as muscle mass, water retention etc.
How you look and feel also count for a lot.

I thought I'd join in on this. Age: 22 Height:168cm Current Weight: 109kg Weight goal within 12 months: 100kg? I'm not that fussed about numbers, but more how I feel/how tight my pants are. Also, light enough to remove pressure from me knees. Cycling goal within 12 months: 40km So I bought a bike back in March, I enjoyed riding it after work and got myself to do 10km pretty easily. Then it started getting cold and Mum started having roasts cooked by the time I got home from work, so given that I was playing/training for hockey, I got lazy with the cycling. I then injured my knee, and wasn't able to cycle or do any real exercise. I finally got around to seeing the surgeon that did my knee reconstruction/medial meniscus repair and it turns out the bit of the meniscus he repaired has torn off and so I have a bit of arthritis and chunks of cartilage floating around being painful. He gave me some anti-inflammatories and said no impact exercises would be good. I can now cycle (probably the anti-inflammatories helping) and just went for a short ride. I managed to get up the hills that were a real struggle when I started back in March, so my legs still have some of the strength I got into them back earlier in the year. The aerobic fitness feels comparatively shot, but that could be the cold I have at the moment. Anyway, it's good to be back on the bike, here's the route's profile for those interested. A question for you healthier eaters, what do you take for lunch at work? I'm after something easy to make. Currently, Vegemite and cheese is very convenient, but not particularly good for me. It is better than buying fried food though.

Vegemite and cheese with what?
I find leftovers can be good.
Before I started working from home I used to take a small tin of tuna (used to buy a few and keep them at work) and if there was any leftover salad I'd take that to work or just make up a quick salad.
Lunchtime = open tuna, empty onto salad, eat...simple!
My trick was to make more salad the night before and pack it up when clearing up, that way it was sitting in the fridge ready for the next day!
