Shoes for touring...

Postby RonK » Mon Sep 03, 2012 10:44 pm

My usual practice is to take only one pair of shoes on tour, currently Northwave Expedition GTX SPD MTB shoes, and a pair of thongs to wear in the showers and around camp. On my forthcoming tour of New Zealand I'll be travelling some back country roads and will have to ford a few streams. So I want something a little more secure than thongs to protect my feet.

Until now there have been few choices - there were pool slippers, canoe shoes, and various hiking sandals, or the disgustingly unfashionable Crocs, but none really fitted my requirements for lightweight, low bulk and reasonable durability very well. But recently, the trend to barefoot running has led to a new generation of lightweight shoes.

Enter the VivoBarefoot Ultra, my new touring utility shoe.

They tick some similar boxes to Crocks, especially in the fashion department.

But they do look good for around camp. I wear sea to summit polartek camp slippers which are really comfy but not any good for walking far in. And they're ultra dorky. 8)

Sorry!
