Well my new 9-speed Ultegra rings have become bent in the last 100 kms. I have a feeling know that my crank spindle is actually bent, and this has warped my 'new' chainrings.

The new rings didn't exactly slide into position perfectly well either.

I think I'm now stuck at the point of diminishing returns. The chances of finding a good quality 8-speed square-taper crank in good condition are virtually zero. And the prices of a 'new' old stock aren't much different to SRAM Rival/105 crankset.

I think I'll just live with it and when I find more cash I'll swap over to 10-speed shifters/casette/rear derailleur/crankset and an external 68mm threaded bottom bracket.
