Postby FITSRACING » Thu Sep 13, 2012 1:25 pm

I have a set of early 1950'S 27 inch Alloy Birmalux rims. for my 1952 3 star pathracer
will modern 27X 1 1/4 tire fit?
stay on with high pressure??
the best 27 inch tires for heavy (rider) road use??

Tony,
a warm welcome.
As the rims are very unlikely to have a bead, you should seek out non-folding tyres (wired).
And you will need to keep the pressure to no more than 80 psi. That is OK for riders up to about 95kg.
So depending on your weight, it could be an issue with pinch flats, if it is a problem you would need to go to a wider tyre.
I use Continental Gatorskins 27x1 1/4 wired (ie non-folding) without incident.
The Clydesdale in my user name refers to my passing the qualification for the club.

I have a couple of sets of new Michelin World Tour (I think that is the model) 27x1.25 tyres. They are quite a large tyre for 1.25" and would not fit the bike I had.

They are gum sided with a heavier tread, but are a nice quality tyre.

I am in Sydney, let me know if you are interested. It is not worth my while posting them.
