Elbow sprained in fall

I took a slow speed tumble, put my arm out to soften the landing and managed to sprain my elbow almost three weeks ago. Did the whole rest, ice, compression, elevation thing but it is taking a long time to come good. Dr says I just have to be patient

Has anyone else done this? How long did it take to come good? Should I be staying off the bike in the meantime?

Yeah, I did it early this year - tripped and fell on my trekking pole while bushwalking. Wrenched my elbow badly - massive bruising surface more than a week later.
It was painful to put pressure on it for a month so no cycling.
