Hello,
I went for a ride this morning and I noticed some black grease sitting just below the front fork join on my road bike. The bike had been sitting for a few weeks in the garage prior to be ridden.
Is this normal??
I have a Carbon road bike 105
Any suggestions would be great
Thanks

Check that the headset isn't loose.

Like rkelsen said, check the headset isn't loose - you might find some perspective in there as well.

Needs to be cleaned up immediately as it detracts from the visual appeal of the bicycle and has been known to cause people to think your not a real cyclist as you bike isn't "just purchased" clean and looking very expensive.
But other than that, if you are going to ride your bike this will happen. Most headsets aren't sealed and small amounts of grease will come out. If there is a big lump of grease that has come out then maybe the last mechanic to service this was over excited with the quantity of grease put in there but other than that all should be fine.
You might be able to reduce the amount of grease that comes out by using one of the thicker Teflon products available for bikes, but if packed with you garden variety wheel bearing grease happens all the time.

No - you definitely need to ride your bike more.auswi2 wrote: The bike had been sitting for a few weeks in the garage prior to be ridden.

My bike blog. Long on rumination, rambling and opinion. Why let facts ruin everything?

Assuming headset is not loose, it will just be a combination of wind and gravity pulling some of the grease out of your headset. If you don't ride in the rain the headset should get re-greased at least once per year. If you ride in the wet a lot then its a more regular job if you want to look after it...auswi2 wrote:Hello,

If the black grease stops comming out, it maybe a sign there is not much left in the headset.
