Speedplay Frogs grinding feeling

So I just got my speedplay pedals today. Took left pedal out and had a feel to see how smooth it was. WT grinding feeling. Take out the right pedal and that is smooth. OK got a problem here, lets put some more grease in. Grinding feeling felt a little better. Get home and I pull the pedal apart and discover that the needle bearing has some black paint/plastic on it.
