6K Club. 2012 Edition. Cleaner and Greener.Re: 6K Club. 2012 Edition. Cleaner and Greener.norbs, bad news about the gopro but good that your back survived better the second day. I also notice today's ride should be enough to get your bar back to green.
Re: 6K Club. 2012 Edition. Cleaner and Greener.Shane asked me about my ride today in Belangalo State Forest.
http://app.strava.com/rides/23087357 Hadn't been before but some of the others had. They rode hybrids to give you some idea of bike needed. My trek 29 was what i needed though. Started from a camping/ picnic area and set off along fire trail or logging roads. Took some diversions which could only be done by the hardiest of 4WDs. The downhill section and climb on the other side (of which I'm KOM- it just came up automatically) is pretty scarey but i suppose you single track guys could handle it. Going down I only felt comfortable with the Garmin reading -12% to -18%. When it registered -34% I was off the bike. I'm not saying other people would not do it. There are plenty of hills, Shane so you should feel at home. A family was getting ready to stay in their caravan overnight. That's another thing for other people to do. We stopped off at the memorial to the backpackers. Graham

The new job has kept us on our toes for the last seven months, we're just starting to settle back into a rhythm and bang! chest infection has kept me off the bike entirely all last week and the rest of this week. Never mind, I'll saddle up again next year! ![]() Fondreist R10, Dura-Ace, Cosmic SL's Specialized Hardrock, Spinergy Xyclones And the occasional trailer full of kids......
Re: 6K Club. 2012 Edition. Cleaner and Greener.Nice average speed for such a long ride, great stuff Norbs.
Real shame about the GoPro BTW, enjoyed both articles a lot and agree wholeheartedly re sentiments about Aussie riders just doing their jobs. Good luck the next few days. Merida 903 from the LBS-nothing fancy... but you haven't seen me ride (nothing fancy)
Re: 6K Club. 2012 Edition. Cleaner and Greener. Thanks for the report Graham. I'm no downhill demon like Lewy so I can understand -34% being pretty scary. I like a good road surface to have any real confidence on steep descents, only problem is good road surfaces don't seam to exist at those kinds of gradients so they generally push my comfort zone. I like the challenge of trying to ride up them though so I guess riding down is something I'll get more used to the more I do it. For what it's worth these scary descents seam to be more of a feature on fire trails rather than single track from what I've ridden so far but my off road experience is still very limited.
Re: 6K Club. 2012 Edition. Cleaner and Greener.
Nice average speed norbs! Smashing out the ks now.
Re: 6K Club. 2012 Edition. Cleaner and Greener.
4 of us doing turns at the front helps. The 17 year old does most of it be he doesnt provide much in the way of a slipstream. I am sore this morning and we still have 450kms to do in 3 days. Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
Re: 6K Club. 2012 Edition. Cleaner and Greener.Up to 5228k for the year so far, going really well but my back had a tantrum the other day so hopefully that settles and doesn't interfere with things.

Re: 6K Club. 2012 Edition. Cleaner and Greener.More MTB madness. 25kms around the roads, bike tracks of Bowral and a visit to the recently done-up velodrome.
http://app.strava.com/rides/23172000 For the Stavans I have designated a single track climb and drop. Where the segment starts and finishes are some sculptures of giant wombats. Photo follows of velodrome. Graham

Re: 6K Club. 2012 Edition. Cleaner and Greener.
Now what would Basil Fawlty say? "I ride on the track, but no I don't ride track!" I have a Cell (prize on here) fixie with deep rims and a purple chain but that's as close as I get to a serious track experience. There are some pretty serious riders in the Highlands but at my age I think that is all behind me. The velodrome is open to the public and occasionally i take the road bike there and have a spin. I did the Strava thing today on the SS 29er to show the South Coasters where the velodrome was. Cheers, Graham
Re: 6K Club. 2012 Edition. Cleaner and Greener.147kms today. Mainly into the wind. Im sore.

They are records that I'm happy for someone else to have...well done on the ride so far, hoping that you have tailwinds for the rest of the ride! Will this ride get a column in the next edition of Ride? Lisa
