Having read the options my selection is 3 because of the wording used.

1) Do you think it's acceptable not to wear a helmet when you ride under the current laws?
2) Do you think it's unnacceptable not to?
3) Do you think it's still optional regardless?
It is a bit confusing I must admit.............the way I read it there is basically no difference between option 1 and 3 :?

And the wife approves... Tried it once without and found both her and the helmet waiting at the front door upon my return, Mmm, not again. It just feels wrong without it now.

Civil disobedience campaigns only work if enough people disobey the silly regs

I think it is acceptable to not wear a helmet under the current laws. Note the word acceptable. Many other things come into consideration: from a moral and political standpoint I do think civil disobedience is reasonable in the face of a law you find unjustifiable but this is a strategy you have to consider in relation to whether the strategy will work or not. While I would continue to support civil disobedience I don't think it would be a successful strategy in this instance. While I may find this acceptable I do wear a helmet for the simple reason that I do not wish to pay the fines, I would get caught as I ride to work every day and mainly ride on roads. Laws should be the servant of the people, not the master.

I have raced cars and hold a number of defensive/advanced driver training certificates and I think it acceptable that we should all be allowed to drive at 200km/h-plus on our highways. However, in deference to the law I choose not to do so.

A helmet offers little or no benefit to recumbent bikes riders and could be considered dangerous in a velomobile as it hinders head movement.....

2 - I don't pick and choose which laws should apply to me... Just as I expect others to abide by laws that they may disagree with, but which protect me as a cyclist.
