I have a very similar build with my Coppi and I de-stickered the wheels. Much better with a steel frame IMO. I'm thinking of coming to Raterday tomorrow so we can compare notes. The Campy wheel ratchet is part of the deal. You'll get to like it.

Call me a contrarian.. because many have, but this is thee single reason im avoiding Campy for my build. The Campy-Click is the same as the Harley-Howl in my book. Look at me marketing. If they did a semi-silent pawl, id jump on the Veloce. Very nice built Dan.

Joizus, you should listen to my scirocco's! You could open them up and squirt a bit of grease in there with a syringe I guess. Might quiten the pawls down a bit. For a while. Maybe.

Ask Vaeske about the Fulcrums on the drug cheat, you reckon the Campy's are noisy.

Since the fulcrums have an interchangeable pawl/ratchet thingy (highly technical terminology), is it possible that it could be decampified?

Why? Part of riding a modern Campy equipped bike is about the freehub ratchet noise. If you wanted to ride a silent freewheeling bike you should of put on boring, I'm a sheep, Shimano components.

And here I am, thinking my choice of equipment was based on my own particular preference for things other than the aesthetic. Best I go check they're at the correct dB level then. Any other Team Campagnolo tricks I need to be aware of? Correct sideburn length? Collar height? Extent of jersey zip undonededness? Just what I always dreamed this thread would become - another Campy V Shimano thread. The joy. Must run - have to measure sideburns.

My Chorus hub is pretty quiet. I think a service and regrease shuts them up. My Mavic hub with ShimaNO is very noisy Neither bothers me. Cheers, Peter

I run these on 2 of my bikes and think its a happy medium between the silent shimano and the rowdy campy.

Thanks James! It rides well too. Putting it together is relatively easy as long as you have the right bits. Get the frame first so you know rear spacing, headset dimensions, bottom bracket thread, etc. - from there you order/source all the parts you need. After that its just like Lego. Here's a groupset that might be suitable for you...

Bit out of my league at the moment, trying to find something original and complete to start off so I can learn how it all works. I'm sure it will happen eventually though hahaha

Yes it will, its a slippery slope. retro steel with modern running gear is a sweet thing indeed. it's not hard to do, everything is essentially the same, except the gear shifting mechanism is at your fingertips instead of the down tube, and only requires adaptors to make it compatible . What's the cost like? I assume you save on frame but pay more by buying groupset etc aftermarket?

Group was bought through the inter webs - was actually quite cheap, but no warranty etc. That's the risk. Wheelset & pedals bought locally (second hard), bar tape, seat post etc all local too, used a saddle I had lying about.
I'd go as far as to say you couldn't buy something new (at this level spec) for under $1000 - which is what this build cost. Plus, its steel.
Give it a go - you'd be surprised how far your $$$ will go.
