Bike Shop Sale
Postby wayno » Thu May 22, 2008 8:35 pm
I just picked up 2 pairs of quality Nike Race knicks for $49 ea. Shoes are 50% off. Nike stuff is heavily discaounted.
Clarence St's b'day sale is on until Sun.
And no I do not work for them, just want fellow forum users to take advantage.

You guys are missing the point. We live in Australia. Our LBSs are in Australia. If they sell their old stock at 50% off, they aren't making enough money on that sale to cover their expenses and be able to put food on the table (in Australia). All they are doing is recovering the cost of getting the stock into their shop. The stock didn't sell, so they need to make room for something that will sell.munga wrote:half the watermelon-bellied kids in africa seem to manage ;p
If they could really make money at 50% off, that's what the retail price would be. The LBS owners would probably have to sell the second Ferrari in their garages though.
Cheers,
Graeme

+1
I work in retail - albeit in an area of retail that has nothing to do with bicycles so I don't have firsthand experience of the LBS side of things - but I know for a fact when we have to mark down some of our slow moving stock it is quite often at or even below our cost, but we just have to get rid of it (obviously we would prefer to make something on it but it ain't always viable)
Before I worked in this sector whenever I saw massive markdowns at whatever shop was doing them I was sceptical and I would think what sort of profit must they be making on whatever it was at full price if they can afford to knock them down this much and still make money on them, but having seen it from the other side of the fence (counter?) it ain't always the case
