I have found and talked to the original owner (John Groom - Groman Plumbing Woollongong) and he tells me the Geoff Scott built a couple of frames for him in the mid 80s. Geoff Scott at the time had his own business and produced 'Gefsco' frames however the business was not successful and he went and worked at Clarence St Cycles for a time. Does anyone know him, of him or has a frame with his decals on them. Any info would be most appreciative

Waz
Finally decided to get this frame refurbished, only taken 2.5 yrs. :? Unfortunately I couldn't get the stem out without destroying it. Anyhoo I have decided to get the frame repainted not powder coated. Just got a call from the guy who's doing the frame paint and it will be ready in 3 weeks, yippee! Colour will be "pearl essence" similar to the colour of the bikes' forks.
More to come later

Waz
PS: does anybody know where to get 'Geoff Scott' sticker/transfers?

Hey Waz, not sure where you'd get them now but I found this you might be able to replicate somehow. I'm saving some of those pics for copying later

Try Clarence St Cycles. They did have a box of old Geoff Scott Clamont decals there a while ago.

The original ones were stickers, so CycloMondo replicas will be a perfect replacement if you don't have any luck getting originals.

Saro,
Cyclomondo only has the Black stickers so I would keep the pictures if you want something different

Had a call from my refinisher and 'Pearlessence' is going to cost a bomb so a colour change is in the wind. I will ask for a quote to return to original but I have a feeling that it will cost the same as pearly. So I'm looking for some thoughts about a single colour for a mid 80's frame.
Please help

sometimes you have to spend a bomb..
if you go another colour, will you always regret not having saved a bit more and getting the pearlescent white?

Hi Wazza,
Who in Brisbane are you using and if you don't mind, what is the cost for the painting? Please feel free to PM if more appropriate.

And for what it's worth go fluoro anything - best if a mish mash of colours I say.

Cheers,
dant

The original paint looks quite good. Have you considered keeping it as-is? It will keep its value better and it is a bucket load cheaper than a respray too.

A good respray would be $250 to &350 from my experience. Is this in line with what you have been quoted ?

Hi Roger,
I was looking at doing that when I first got the frame from Andrew however the paint on the drive side stay is knocked around a fare bit and there was paint fade a round the original owners bike stickers which I wasn't happy with ergo the new paint job and of course no Geoff Scott stickers.

I have been quoted $220 for a base colour respray and as it turns out, all his work mates are talking his paint skills up so that can't be a bad thing. The pearlessence and colour fade option would cost me near double so I had to draw the line somewhere. I am looking to get the bike done in yellow similar to http://www.cyclingnews.com/features/pho ... c59/182288. Then with a tan 'Brooks' saddle and leather bar tape it should come up a treat.

Next step for the resto, I have got the final review of the frame from Rueben and the news is not so good. As previously mentioned (I think) the crown on the fork needs to be rebuilt due to wear however the BB threads need to be reset and refaced due to some gentle persuasion with a hammer :x . Anyway I believe that the frame is worth it to me. So for the fix and respray cost is set at $390. Frame should be completed in ~4weeks so I'll just have to wait.

Well I have the first pictures of the refurbishment
Image
Yes I know its only undercoat but hey it's a start however I do hope to have some colour shots later in the week. The painter commented on the frame saying "It's an Awesome Frame" so I am hopefulof a great result.
I have got a complete Shimano 600 8 speed grouppo with very flash blue chain rings and I am bidding on a vgc shimano headset that Singlespeedscott has going on eBay. I just need a seat pin and an 80mm/90mm quill and I think I'm done. The seat pin I would like to get is something like this
Image
The quill I am unsure of at the moment as Munga has a cracker on his Raleigh that I really like but he wont part with it and I have offered numerous amounts of cash right up to $10  . Any how I'll keep looking.

Got my first look at colour today (only photos :( ) but I am very happy with the progress. Now that I've seen the colour, 'BumbleBee' might not be the option. I was thinking tan saddle and bar tape with silver wheels. I will now wait till I see it to make that decision. Clear coats start tomorrow :D

I have a seatpost from Idrcycles that should clean up a treat so the next piece is the stem. Is there any out there?

Waz you were all quiet about the Geoff Scott on Saturday - could it be that you're secretly baking it in preparation for B2GC?
