Sometimes cheaper to buy a used bike complete as a donor, and cough up for new cables cassette and chain.Group set, wheels , bars, stem, seat post etc... to boot. Flip the frame for a few Lazy $$$, and that will cover chain, cable , bar tape etc...

I'm a tight ar$e on a limited budget, but always manage to cobble the bit together for a minimum expense.

I'm just fine tuning a commuter that I built for a total of $12 out of pocket expense. Won't go into detail here as it's Digger dan's thread, and I don't want to thread drift it for him.

Oh and to bring it back OT, pleased to hear you love your new ride DD .

Ps. sorry for the digression

All good Dave. I agree totally - a fully running donor gives you leverage in that you can still ride it while you're collecting the other parts. I mean, the sakae cranks on my commuter work just fine, but the 600s from another $25 gumtree frame match the other group bits, so they'll go on there in time.

As long as there's one fully functional bike at any given time, the tinkering is easy and relatively stress free. Unless eBayes madness is involved.

If anyone is looking to pick up something similar - there's one on the gold coast on that auction site.

After having had it completed for a few days now, any update on how it rides?
