Looking To Upgrade
Postby OrbeaOnix » Sun Oct 07, 2012 3:13 pm
I currently have an '09 Orbea Onix (full carbon with 105 10sp group). I'm looking at upgrading within the next couple of months, and amongst others I've seen, there is a 2011 Fuji Altamira 1.0 with Shimano Dura Ace groupset and Oval Concept (who apparently are owned by Fuji) components, including the wheels. The price of this particular bike brand new is $3600.00, about half the original cost. I assume that's because it is 12 months old. I'm looking at spending between $3500.00- $4000.00 (give or take a couple of hundred). I've read reviews on the Fuji and all seem positive. The only downside that I can see is the colour scheme, but that has no impact on the performance and reliability of the bike. Another make in that sort of bracket is the Fondriest F3 1.2 2012 (Ultegra groupset). The groupset aside, to upgrade the wheels on the Fondriest would add a considerable amount to the purchase price. I'm leaning towards the Fuji because of the Dura Ace group and the wheels. Anybody had any experience with either or both, or have any alternatives?

Upgrade your frame with the Campagnolo gruppo of your choice.
My bike blog. Long on rumination, rambling and opinion. Why let facts ruin everything?

Fuji make fantastic bikes...
I have the SST 1.0 and still prefer it over my Ridley Noah and Giant TCR SL0 on most rides.
The Altamira is a more comfortable lighter bike than the Aero SST frames and at that price its great value.
My suggested options;
2012 Giant TCR SL Rabobank (Dura Ace Gruppo, C50's) Not sure how many Giant still have. But I ordered one for $4200 from $6500..
2011 Avanti Quantum Team (Dura Ace Gruppo, C24's) $3k - $3.5k depending where you are..

While that might be true colour scheme is plenty important!The only downside that I can see is the colour scheme, but that has no impact on the performance and reliability of the bike.
