Better Wheels

Well ive had my Merida for about 2 months and have really enjoyed the switch from my old mountain bike. I've been thinking of doing some racing with a friend. Basically i was wondering how long my current rims will last me if i ride about twice a week, and on holidays pretty much 5-6 times a week.

As i have a limited budget of about 375$ i looked overseas to see if i could find some cheaper wheels. I found these two and was wondering if anyone new if they were any good, or atleast if they would be able to be fit onto my bike.

I'll also have to change tyres before i start racing but I'll probably just wait until i get a puncture in one of them.

Your current wheels will last a long time bud.....

Depending how heavy you are and how many pot holes you hit you should just need to true them now and again when you get your bike serviced..

Save an extra $90 and buy these

Lets make some Fulcrum/Mavic/Shimano/etc wheels, first, start by getting some propriety hubs, rims and spokes so that whenever our customer breaks something they are at our mercy. Secondly we'll put a 2000% up mark on them and have 1000 middle men... If you want to upgrade your wheels I'd go custom. Factory built wheels have their limitations and so do custom wheels, it really depends on what you want. The guys at BWW do a great job with their semi-custom wheels, but getting in touch with them is a pain

Have a look at the Swiss Side range, just added a few new models. I bought the St Bernard as I am a little heavier and they are true as after 5000km in eight months riding. Spin nicely and not too heavy. I pulled the front dust cover off to see what bearings they used and they are EZO brand sealed bearings. I'd buy another wheelset from them in a heartbeat and warranty issues are dealt with in Sydney apparently.

Slow down with the upgraditis.

After two months, you've prolly ridden the new bike not much more than 10 times. Ride them until you are faster than the wheels.

When you are being held back by the (still new) wheels, then it's time to upgrade. And at that point, a new bike might be in order.

You want to change wheels 'cause you're thinking of racing? If racing is your justification, wait until you are racing, and training has ceased to yield results.
