Chinese carbon frame and wheels threadRe: Chinese carbon frame and wheels threadTry Reynolds Blue
tried the supplied ones .... scared by the reduction in braking distance tried Reynolds blue .... feels the same as stock pads on aluminium in regards to performance
Re: Chinese carbon frame and wheels threadDid you get the Farsport N model at that price?. I'm looking at the M which is a bit lighter but more $s.

Re: Chinese carbon frame and wheels thread
What's the go with the front brake pad? Looks like apple crumble ![]()
Re: Chinese carbon frame and wheels threadYeah those pads that came with the wheels are rubbish. Got yellow swissstops on now.
Re: Chinese carbon frame and wheels threadI was riding next to a guy today (in the B2GC) who has one of these frames. They look great. After chatting to him about itI am now very tempted to get one. On the todo list I think. Where's the best place to look at buying one of these frames (FM098???).
Re: Chinese carbon frame and wheels thread
Have a read of this http://www.novemberbicycles.com/blog/2011/8/31/how-its-made-carbon-clincher-blowups.html long read but essentially it is sayig Swisstop Yellow + long mountain descents with carbon rims = no no

Re: Chinese carbon frame and wheels thread
Excellent article thanks
Re: Chinese carbon frame and wheels threadLooking at the bike gallery on Velobuild there seems to be at least three different types of FM098 frames going around, the shape of the one in the pictures above looks more like the Mclaren Venge on which it is modelled on than some of the other ones especially the area where the top tube meets the head tube. Are they all from the same manufacturer / seller?
Re: Chinese carbon frame and wheels thread
Could have something to do with different frame sizes? Pretty sure it's one manufacturer and several sellers. ![]()
Re: Chinese carbon frame and wheels thread
I think maybe newer model is the uglier venge style. ![]()
Re: Chinese carbon frame and wheels threadThey all look the same to me...with the exception of frame sizes. Got any examples of the differing geometries?
Re: Chinese carbon frame and wheels threadAs an example, compare this one:
http://www.velobuild.com/images/buildAr ... G_9609.JPG with this one: http://www.velobuild.com/images/buildAr ... AG0104.jpg Purt could be right, it may just be the different frame sizes, but the area around where the top tube head tube and down tube meet just looks too different. I prefer the look of the second one, which also looks much more like the original S-Works Mclaren Venge on which it is supposedly based.
Re: Chinese carbon frame and wheels thread
That looks hideous S-Works Venge
Re: Chinese carbon frame and wheels thread+1 on being frame sizings, all the lines look 'proportional'

Re: Chinese carbon frame and wheels threadI think the second one looks terrible :S
You can tell that the second one is a much bigger frame, based on the size of the wheels. Looks like they stretched the whole frame upwards. Aesthetics aren't helped by the stack of spacers and super-up angle stem.

Re: Chinese carbon frame and wheels threadOk so I've been looking to get a nice set of wheels to replace the Shimano RS-10's that came with my bike. Which led my to these:
FSC50-CN Rim: 50mm clincher 20H/24H external 3k Matt finish Hubs: EdHubs Spoke: Sapim CX-Delta black Jbend Nipple: Sapim Sils red or black Weight: 1430g+/-30g for one pair Accessories: 2 pairs brake pads and 1 pair skewers Price: $546 Going to be my race day wheels, I've only just started racing and I think these are going to be my reward for getting to C grade. Just want to know your thoughts if these are going to make a suitable wheel set for racing? Should I go deeper, there does tend to be a bit of wind around the course most days? The course is flat, no hills there is a small incline but it is nothing, oh and I weigh ~70kg. I considered tubulars there but these wheels are already pushing my budget, I believe clinchers are less effort to maintain and worry about and I don't mind the ~100g extra.
