Hi all,
I discovered a slice in the sidewall of my tyre this morning, and this evening I had a flat.
I hadn't noticed the slice previously, but when I changed the tube there was a patch in the same spot as the slice. So I figure it's been there since I bought it (the bike is 2nd hand, had it for around 2 weeks).
To get me through I put some folded up glossy paper inside the tube and pumped it up. Seems to of held for now.
Has anyone got good tips for sidewall repair? I was thinking maybe using a tube patch against the tyre. But open to ideas.

Maybe post a photo to show the damaged area, but my initial advice would be to bin the tyre.

I agree bin it, if its your front tyre it's dangerous, tyres are cheap

GO and buy a tyre........ and a decent helmet , because crashing hurts

I'm going to say "depends". If the tyre isn't deforming around the cut when fully inflated inflated, you haven't damaged the tyre enough for it to need replacing. I use the self-adhesive tube repair patches on this sort of cut. But keep an eye on it, tyres are under a heck of a lot of force, so the damage might spread.

PLus 1 for me on the replace option. Ride it out of trouble , but replace it as soon as you are able.
Bigger possibility of a blow out or puncture, leading to face plant damaged wheels bike etc time off work, much more expensive than 1 tyre

Yeah sorry for the lack of an update guys.
I binned it.
Then a couple of days later the rear tyre got a massive slit across its face, binned that too.
The bike was second hand so I suppose the tyres were at the end of their life.
I could have saved the front (sidewall slit) with some floss and an internal patch job, but had bad visions of failure. With good quality tyres at $50 a pop locally, it wasn't worth messing around with.
