10 Speed Shimano FD

Sorry if this has been asked before, hopefully someone can give a quick answer.

Can I use a 10 speed front derailleur with 9 speed RD, chain and shifters?

Really? The 9-speed chain which is wider may rub on the narrower 10-speed front derailleur cage. I will be interested in how this works.
