Fulcrum wheel choice

Postby Breakaway » Sat Oct 13, 2012 11:10 am

Hey All,
Looking at buying a wheelset for my new bike.

Having a look i have found a set of red spoke fulcrum zero for $1499.00 and for around the same price I can also get the Red Wind 80 carbon wheelset.
I have heard great things about the zero but also like the deep profile of the 80's.
These will be for racing only. My racing is crits through the summer and road racing up to winter.
I'm no sprinter but like to spend alot of time on the front or in attempted breaks.

Thanks for any advice, I just don't want to buy incorrectly.

Cheers

Hi mate.
Red Wind are clincher I believe.
For that price I would look at some 2nd hand tubs .. 404 are ideal.

Hi Mark,
Cheers Mate. I had Zipp 404 Tubs on my last bike I didn't like the tubs as I commute to and from our race venue to warm up and cool down, one puncture can ruin the day.
I wasn't impressed also with the Zipp hubs.

I suppose the best way of putting it is "Are the alloy zero's a better choice than a lower grade carbon deep v wheel for what i'm doing"? or vice versa.
Would the aero dynamics of the 80's be better. Some of our road races can be quite hilly where the zero's are 500gms lighter.
Cheers mate
