Ok this is undoubtedly a silly question or two but given that I am totally new to riding a road bike.....
Is it normal for the bike to automatically shift up or down a gear or two when theres a sudden change in cadence and power in the pedal stroke? I have noticed a couple of times if I am cruising and then give a few hard strokes the gearing switches up or if I have been caning it and then back off it drops a gear?
Second and probably more ridiculous question... whats the best way to go about monitoring and maintaining tyre pressure? My bike pump doesnt have a pressure gauge and I find it hard to get sufficient air in using it and servo automated ones dont strike me as a great idea either?
Thanks!

no - gears need adjusting, and
spend some money on a reputable floor pump with pressure gauge.

+1
I just got one of these and for the money they are excellent. I actually got mine from Torpedo 7 but they don't seem to stock them anymore.
One of my mates has had one of these for a couple of years and he checks his tyres a couple of times a week as he rides about 20K a year and has had no problems.
