Which reminds me. When do they stop swooping?
I've got one particularly intelligent one near me that now skips the helmet and goes straight for the ears.

So, you need to fight back with super-intelligance.jacob_T wrote:Brilliant photograph.

Cover your ears, wear a bandana under your esky lid.
I use a T-shirt, but a bit too bulky really, though it gives me really good cover of ears and back of neck.
Then I'm like honey badger, when magpie swoops me.
On the photo, the GoPro is a top little camera.

We need a miniature phalanx system on our bikes. Locked on - fire!

I saw a very similar image live one morning. Scooting down a hill, around 40 when I got a love tap from above, put the hammer down and looked around a few secs later to see the perpetrator in the pose above keeping pace with me, trimming the wing tips to stay on target but not quite keeping up. Not sure how long he was there as I didn't want to stick around and wait for another hit but he must've followed me for a reasonable time.

And I'm pretty sure it's been 'shopped too.
The bird in the pic and the bird in the shadow are in very different attitudes. The bird in the shadow has its wings up and head down, the bird in shot has its wings down and head up.
Cool pic all the same.

There is a nasty magpie here in Brisbane that just targets your left year only and bites it. And it's only started in the last two weeks. Corner of Rickertt Road and Chelsea Rd along the shared bike path that skips the road cutting. It's a popular route with many cyclists heading to Wellington Point and Redland Bay.
So far, my experience is that it only attacks riders on their return trip back from Wellington Point. I've ridden out that way a couple of times in the last fortnight and only been hit on the return trip. Doesn't matter if your on the bike path on the out bound side, or riding the road on the in bound side, it'll only hits you on the trip back. Same bird has hit a work colleague as well, and only on the ride back.
And it fecking hurts. I've got some nice scars on my left ear now.
So now all rides are over the Gateway and north up through the Toombul wetlands.

Just wondering how many nests everyone has to go past on there normal ride?
On my usual ride there is now 7 I have to put up with. And I was looking forward to summer during winter..... these phsyco birds don't make it very enjoyable.
Cheers
