That's pretty impressive....and the car required a tow truck.
Hope he heals well. I do care that a cyclist was hit though I don't even know who he is.

From the story, looks like an older lady was driving and Brown was in a peleton of 20.

"As you may or may not know, the Brisbane Lions Jonathon Brown was hit by a motorist while training this morning on the Gold Coast. We have contacted the Lions to try and find out what size the man mountain takes, and we're kicking off a small crowd funding campaign to get him into a new SCA cycling kit.
The cost is $200, and it would be great for JB to know that we'd all contributed to getting him back on the bike and getting him even more attention while he's out there doing something he really enjoys. We hope you can help out.
We'll pass on the link to everyone this afternoon."

<cynical statement>They won't have to be careful as it will be an accident involving a football player! </cynical statement>Oxford wrote:Winston, stop spoiling a good story with factual information.
Without knowing the details of course, but I wonder if this will get investigated "properly" by the police. They want to be careful, don't want to set the bar too high and actually investigate an accident involving a cyclist.

Yes, it was certainly requested at the head of the comments (SMH)Mrfenejeans wrote:The only cyclist story where the general Australian public won't be calling for him to have had paid registration for being on their roads.
Only for the inevitable dose of stupid (and I'm really hoping it was tongue in cheek but doubt it ) :Ha - how tough is he!
But seriously - can we not have a "bikes should be registered" debate as a result of this story - please.
I just feel that if JB was riding a registered bike for example, then accidents like this a far less likely to happen. If people are made to register a bike it should hopefully mean they are serious about riding and more likely to follow the rules and take care. Surely everyone should agree with this Alex.

Another one!!! and we only hear about them because of the person's profile - how many other 'accidents' today -
Sorry.....I didn't see you...........
"Jonathan Brown was not the only AFL player to have an altercation with a car while out riding a bike today.
North Melbourne's Aaron Edwards had a near-miss after a driver opened a car door in front of him, forcing the Kangaroo to swerve out the way.
The incident happened on Harbour Esplanade, Docklands, outside AFL House, with Edwards' hand clipping the car door. The 28-year-old suffered a cut finger but the injuries could have been more serious.
Edwards was out riding with teammates Jack Ziebell and Robbie Tarrant.
A North Melbourne spokesman said the trio was having breakfast in Port Melbourne after having ridden to Sandringham when they first heard about the collision between Brown and the car on the Gold Coast.
Weirdly, they had then spoken between themselves about the dangers for cyclists on the road before Edwards' incident happened on their way home."

If you can help we only need a paltry $200 to pay for it, but the fund is only running for 9 days. We needed to set the bar at $500 just to get this going, so anything over and above the $200 will go to a charity of Jonathon's choosing.
I do wish SCA wasn't so impoverished that we had to ask for help on this, but it's tough raising funds and awareness and things aren't set to get any easier in the forseeable future.
