Re: Brisbane Lions captain hit by car while trainingAre they sure he wasn't riding a skateboard ?
I was going to buy a fast, stylish bike, but I looked in the mirror & thought "you're not fooling anyone, you know"
Re: Brisbane Lions captain hit by car while training
LOL, I thought the same thing when I saw the thread title. Just read the article. I'm not a fan of the Lions or Brown, but I had to laugh at the article, bike mangled, car towed away, Brown walked away, he is a hard nut. Life is not about waiting for the rain to pass.....it's about learning to dance (or ride) in the rain.

That's pretty impressive. Hope he heals well. I do care that a cyclist was hit though I don't even know who he is. 2011 Orbea Onix | Giant Defy Commuter | Giant XTC 29er
Re: Brisbane Lions captain hit by car while trainingIt would've felt like driving into a very big wall!

Re: Brisbane Lions captain hit by car while trainingHis elbow required 10 stitches after hitting and smashing the windscreen, hence the tow truck.
From the story, looks like an older lady was driving and Brown was in a peleton of 20. http://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/brisbane-lions-captain-jonathan-brown-hit-by-car-on-training-ride-through-gold-coast/story-e6frf7jo-1226501294560 ![]() Fav Ride : Pottsville, Byron, Bangalow, Eureka, Dunoon, Nimbin, Uki, Mooball, Pottsville 200km 3000m

"As you may or may not know, the Brisbane Lions Jonathon Brown was hit by a motorist while training this morning on the Gold Coast. We have contacted the Lions to try and find out what size the man mountain takes, and we're kicking off a small crowd funding campaign to get him into a new SCA cycling kit. The cost is $200, and it would be great for JB to know that we'd all contributed to getting him back on the bike and getting him even more attention while he's out there doing something he really enjoys. We hope you can help out. We'll pass on the link to everyone this afternoon." Safe Cycling Australia on facebook. The only good Cyclist is a Bicyclist

Re: Brisbane Lions captain hit by car while trainingWinston, stop spoiling a good story with factual information.
Without knowing the details of course, but I wonder if this will get investigated "properly" by the police. They want to be careful, don't want to set the bar too high and actually investigate an accident involving a cyclist. Re: Brisbane Lions captain hit by car while training
<cynical statement>They won't have to be careful as it will be an accident involving a football player! </cynical statement>
Re: Brisbane Lions captain hit by car while trainingThe only cyclist story where the general Australian public won't be calling for him to have had paid registration for being on their roads.
Re: Brisbane Lions captain hit by car while training
Yes, it was certainly requested at the head of the comments (SMH)
Only for the inevitable dose of stupid (and I'm really hoping it was tongue in cheek but doubt it
Re: Brisbane Lions captain hit by car while trainingFrom the SMH website:
Another one!!! and we only hear about them because of the person's profile - how many other 'accidents' today - Sorry.....I didn't see you........... "Jonathan Brown was not the only AFL player to have an altercation with a car while out riding a bike today. North Melbourne's Aaron Edwards had a near-miss after a driver opened a car door in front of him, forcing the Kangaroo to swerve out the way. The incident happened on Harbour Esplanade, Docklands, outside AFL House, with Edwards' hand clipping the car door. The 28-year-old suffered a cut finger but the injuries could have been more serious. Edwards was out riding with teammates Jack Ziebell and Robbie Tarrant. A North Melbourne spokesman said the trio was having breakfast in Port Melbourne after having ridden to Sandringham when they first heard about the collision between Brown and the car on the Gold Coast. Weirdly, they had then spoken between themselves about the dangers for cyclists on the road before Edwards' incident happened on their way home." Re: Brisbane Lions captain hit by car while trainingAppropriate choice of words used in that a near miss means a hit, resulting in the finger laceration. If it had been a near hit he would have been ok.

Re: Brisbane Lions captain hit by car while trainingFor those of you who are interested, I have kicked off a small Crowd Fund to get JB into an SCA cycling kit. Yes he makes 10 times more than most of us, but where Safe Cycling Australia is concerned, it's great PR for us and we already know the kit does help keep cyclists safe on the road by increasing driver awareness.
If you can help we only need a paltry $200 to pay for it, but the fund is only running for 9 days. We needed to set the bar at $500 just to get this going, so anything over and above the $200 will go to a charity of Jonathon's choosing. I do wish SCA wasn't so impoverished that we had to ask for help on this, but it's tough raising funds and awareness and things aren't set to get any easier in the forseeable future. http://www.indiegogo.com/jbfund?c=comments&a=1340916 The only good Cyclist is a Bicyclist
