First tumble....

Postby 15wilsonwu » Mon Oct 22, 2012 9:26 am

Today when I was riding to school, I kinda crashed when I turned into a corner.... I'll post pictures once I get home. :(
I have some sort of a road rash on my knee, my skin's peeled off my palm and my elbow's stuffed up.

Sorry to hear that. :(

Get that road rash cleaned up quickly and wash out all the rubbish from the graze and follow it up with antiseptic solution. And then get off to a doctor, they'll get you sorted.

Have you got gloves? I'd recommend using those when riding - they'll take the impact if you go down.

Normally, I use my gloves but since my commute to school is just 2km, I couldnt be stuffed to wear it. Oh and, the nurse in school already got me sorted, thanks for the concern.

The bike is fine, just some scratches on the pedals and the chain came off, which isnt really an issue.

Ouch! Looks like you'll get a sweet knee scar out of it though.

Owww! That knee scar looks pretty nasty.

I guess you'll be back on the bike pretty soon with the battle scars. Wear them as a badge of honour - bandaged and wounded and already back on the bike. :)

I'll be trying to commute tomorrow (with a lot more caution of course) but it's probably gonna hurt since whenever I bend or extend my knee after bending or extending my knee (if you know what I mean), it kinda hurts.

So if I was extended my knee for 5 mins, and I suddenly bend it, it's gonna hurt and vice versa (does it make sense?)

Oh and, I found some scratches on the brifters.

Riding will be the best thing to loosen up the bruises, Wilson.

Despite being old enough to know better, I've stacked twice in the last six months and each time left me with a very grazed and bruised knee. Riding will help!

Do you know why you stacked? If you don't know, you won't know what to do different. FWIW, one of mine was from going too fast, the other from going too slow.

I just realized if you look at my knee injury, it kinda resembles the shape of Australia

It shouldn't scar. I've had plenty of "road rash" like that before. Mostly from playing touch rugby on dry grass.
g-boaf wrote:Have you got gloves? I'd recommend using those when riding - they'll take the impact if you go down.
In my personal opinion, if you feel you need to wear gloves while riding to protect yourself when you come off then you obviously are coming off far too many times to be healthy. Each to their own of course, just my opinion.

(It is sort of like wearing a helmet in case you bang your head in the kitchen. Actually now that I think about it, the number of times those cupboard doors have got me it would probably make a lot of sense. )

by the look of that I'm glad I haven't succumbed to a road crash for many years, although riding fixed might change that. My stacks in recent years have been on MTB and they tend to be tumbles, rather than slides, less grazing but more bruising I think.

Beautiful! The young ladies should be all over you now!

It'll eventually clear up, but you'll still see it. I've got a good one on my right knee as well from over a year ago.

If not then you learned your lesson :)
