Chamois cream without lanolin?Does anyone know of a good chamois cream that doesn't contain lanolin?
Re: Chamois cream without lanolin?I use a Hemp Body Butter from the Body Shop.
You have officially become your parents.
Re: Chamois cream without lanolin? No need to buy an expensive purpose made chamois cream. All you need is a good barrier cream or moisturiser to help stop chaffing.
Plain old Sorbolene is cheap, non irritant and works well. Another one I have been using with good results ie. no chaffing or saddle sores which I am prone (and renowned) for is Skin Basics, Zinc and Castor Oil Cream. It is dirt cheap and works a treat. Buy it in large tubs from the Discount Chemist Chain stores.
Re: Chamois cream without lanolin?I use QV cream, but I have also use good old sorbolene - Amcal pharmacies sell a 500gm tub for around $7.00.

Re: Chamois cream without lanolin?Sorry for the bump and graphic description but I have a question.
My jocks kind of get stuck between my groin and legs and as a pedal the jocks pinch and pull and I end up with decent chafing. Stopping short of wearing jocks or anything that has a seam between the groin and legs, is it reslly worth getting branded chammy cream over your run of the mill qv sorbolene cream?
Re: Chamois cream without lanolin?
Why would you even consider wearing jocks? Nicks are meant to be worn without jocks! And if you are not wearing nicks then surely that is the first step! (I rarely used nicks and I've never used chamois cream in my life. Never had problems even with 240km+.)
Re: Chamois cream without lanolin?
I don't wear knicks, I wear sports shorts. I would prefer to keep it this way (personal preference).
Re: Chamois cream without lanolin?
Fair enough! In fact I'm on the record on these forums as "anti-Lycra"! My recommendations would be either nicks under shorts OR seamless underwear. Though I'm hardly the expert on this matter. Creams I have no idea on.

Nobody younger than 27 has experienced a month with temperatures lower than the 20th century global monthly average.
Re: Chamois cream without lanolin? There is no comparison. Go the nicks, with or without MTB shorts over if its the aesthetics that bother you. No seams rocks!
Re: Chamois cream without lanolin?Jockey make good, seamless, thin jocks, which are almost a lycra material.
I use them to stop chafing when running. $20 a pair, but worth it.
Re: Chamois cream without lanolin?
I don't wear them either, I just wear the tight fitting short style undies and find them very comfortable even on long rides, Graeme Sent from my Transformer TF700T using Tapatalk 2 ***Looking For Information About Bicycle Cameras ***

Re: Chamois cream without lanolin?Any recommended (affordable) brand of knicks in that case?
Re: Chamois cream without lanolin?
Aldi knicks are the cheapest knicks you can buy, (paid $14 for the last one I bought) and while the padding is pretty good they are only suitable for wearing under shorts as they are virtually see through.
Re: Chamois cream without lanolin?
Chamois creme for chamois. If you wear jocks I'd hate to see the unholy mess that'd result from chamois creme I only ever wear jocks for a short commute (10kms). Longer distance it's always knicks or Ground Effect Juggernauts, each with a chomois. But I never use chamois creme, even on a 2 week - 2 month tour; nor on a 200-300km Audax day ride. Riding bikes in traffic - what seems dangerous is usually safe; what seems safe is often more dangerous.
Re: Chamois cream without lanolin?I'm just starting to indulge in rides over an hour and am finding the knicker thing to become a problem.
To avoid buying more 'stuff', I improvised and have been using silicone based lube (yes, sex lube. Swiss Navy It means I can keep wearing underwear (because I am too paranoid to go without) and ride for longer without getting uncomfortable.
Re: Chamois cream without lanolin?
Treat the knicks as underwear, Swon - launder after every ride. Just put those shorts over the top of them if you want to keep your current aesthetics. Jocks can dig in, and the material of some boxers collects your perspiration instead of wicking it.
Re: Chamois cream without lanolin?
Do you apply the Sorbolene to the Knicks padding too or just the skin?
Re: Chamois cream without lanolin? Here's a thought. Are there any knicks made today with a chamois insert that is actually chamois? Why do they still call it chamois cream. By the way I use BBB cream. (Breasts, Buttocks, and Between the Legs). Top stuff, just rub it in, no mess and really works.
Al.
Re: Chamois cream without lanolin?
Some people on this board might have applied lotion to genuine chamois to soften it, but these days the inserts are foam.
Re: Chamois cream without lanolin?
Slather it on the pad, liberally, and I mean liberally. Whatever remains on your hand, wipe it off on your skin. Cycle touring blog and tour journals: whispering wheels...
