Re: helmet vs. no helmet? This should be a good one....
Re: helmet vs. no helmet? No helmet and shaved head is more aero... Don't forget the skin suit and bootie covers

Re: helmet vs. no helmet?im not sure about riding, but I always wear my drinking helmet...
The dutch have one word to describe the aussie MHL, this word is ;
SCHIJNVEILIGHEID !!

Re: helmet vs. no helmet?
Would a bald head actually be more aero? ![]() If your head was dimpled then it might be aero
Re: helmet vs. no helmet?
I am sorted then, bald and have dimples on the skull
Re: helmet vs. no helmet?Bald head........aero glasses.........big pointy nose........tape over the ears..........and keep your mouth shut
Re: helmet vs. no helmet?Yes, because it has a smaller frontal area than with a helmet. Gets in before the lock...
Re: helmet vs. no helmet?
Well thats an aero tt helmet... bald head would be more aero than a head of hair waving around, no idea how much though... probably a nats dick. But head alone will be quite a bit more aero than your average road helmet. This was no helmet... http://app.strava.com/rides/10278948#180580550 and it was fast... I don't think a helmet was going to do a lot for me at 50-70 kmph if I came off but I ceratainly felt naked without it at those speeds. Re: helmet vs. no helmet?
Yes a head has a smaller frontal area... but a TT helmet fills in the dip of the neck... so I am not sure if a good aero helmet ( which suits the riders position ) plus a visor is more aero than just a head. I will leave that to ALex
Re: helmet vs. no helmet?I forgot my helmet one day and it took me about 10 minutes or more to realize before I turned back. Definitely felt and appeared on the computer to be faster than normal.
Re: helmet vs. no helmet? We probably won't find out either as I'm expecting this to be locked as soon as a mod realizes. Maybe Warthog1 can tell us. He's also got one of those funny looking things.
Re: helmet vs. no helmet?
I did the same thing with the same results........however with me it was the panic setting in just in case the cops spotted me and I copped a fine.........my fastest trip ever getting back up the hill to home.
Re: helmet vs. no helmet?Might be locked... but personally I actually wonder before a ride if I am going to go and have a crack at a flat fast strava segment if I should skip the helmet. No way am I going to wear a sperm hat on a training ride

Re: helmet vs. no helmet? If you don't wish to shave your head as well as your legs...........a rubber shower cap should do the trick.
Re: helmet vs. no helmet?Lock? Naaah.
This has been the most coherent and enjoyable lid thread I've read for some time now ...whatever the road rules, self-preservation is the absolute priority for a cyclist when mixing it with motorised traffic.

Re: helmet vs. no helmet? This is bound to get it locked then - 1940 aero helmets

Re: helmet vs. no helmet?
What, funny looking head or helmet I reckon TLL is right as an aero helmet correctly worn should smooth the air flow off the back of the scone. Then again my funny looking, clapped between two bricks head, has a pretty small frontal area, so I don't know. Plus look at those non pointy helmets Sky were wearing at the tdf this year
Re: helmet vs. no helmet?Yeah, it looks less high on the head, but it appears to be a Euro specific helmet as it has next to no vents. It's going to be 36 deg C here tomorrow. I couldn't wear it without having to stop to wash the sweat out of my eyes. Maybe a winter specific helmet? Probably more aero than the winter specific one below. ![]()
Re: helmet vs. no helmet?Must be the helmet because as you have the good idea to hide your identity, I don't know what you look like. I didn't bother to watch too much of the TdF this year as it was so boring. The Sky train made it so. So I only watched it when I was on night shifts. I think I missed the helmets. Got a pic?
