Conti 4000s or Attack/Force

Hey guys,

Going to buy some new tyres but I cant decide.

I have personally tried both but I honestly cant tell the difference, if anything I think the 4000s felt faster but that could be just be in my mind

The attack force are good to ride on but do not last very long. Actually I would go so far as to say the wear is appalling. Rear tyre was just over 500 km's before it started failing and just under 1000 before it became unusable. The inner material was showing through around the whole tyre. Sent em back to continental and they said that was the normal life of the tyre. They ride well but no better than similar tyres from other brands and definitely not worth the money for the very average durability. Schwables are better as are Panaracer and High end Vittorias. IMHO

Have only tried the 23c 4000s and the grip and roll is fantastic. They've done about 1000kms and the back tyre has flattened off, so it may only last 2-3000kms? Front still looks reasonably new, so I'll just rotate it to the back and put a new one on the front.

Conti GP4000's, had em last 3/4/5000km's and have minimal punctures "touch wood' with no rotations.

IMO, tires under 200 grams are light. 200-220g middle of the road, and >220g heavy.

- 4000s are 205 grams, so you can race on them without too much penalty.
I've had around 10 pairs of GP 4000s for general road use and racing. I think they are hard to beat for durability at a reasonable weight.
They are around aud35 on ribble and I just ordered another 2 pairs.

-Attack 190g, Force 210g, so a minimal 5g lighter.
keep in mind if you rotate tires front to back, would you put an attack on the back?
Never used them but they are more expensive.

- I've also just ordered light tires for my race wheels, Vittoria Diamonte 175grams aud35.
Never used them before but don't expect them to last long if on the road.

They are both black and round.

GP4000's are a better general purpose tire as you can buy a 3rd for a spare in the case you cut one, you can rotate them and really unless you have deep dish aero rims there isn't a great deal of benefit of the A/F.

I have a set of A/F on some aero rims but since then have just been using GP's and won't ever get A/F again as GP's are just easier.

I run my rear 4000s at 120psi, never had a problem and rider + panniers is over 100kgs.

People really need to consider what they are using the tyres for!
Training or racing? obviously race tyres will wear out within -2000km

Not according to Conti's Australian rep who told me to return em to the shop and they would be replaced. When I told him I got em online he basically said "toughsh-t" And they started to wear out after 500km but were useless before 2000

I've had force/attack on my deep 'race wheels' for a bit less than a year now but they haven't done many km. I am starting to ride them more regularly though, I've never had a puncture and the 'attack' tyre still has the central mold line but the 'force' has started to square off. That said looking at the wear indicators on the 'force' it still has plenty of rubber left. No idea on how many km they've been, I switch wheels too often to know. I've also tried the GP 4 seasons and Ultremo ZX's both of which I've found fine, I can't feel much between them.

I have the attackforce, which was recommended to me by a mate (who then got himself GP4000s tyres LOL)

running well, have had 3 flats so far,
one from a thumbtack.... another from a shard of glass... gave me 2 flats in one ride when i thought i had it all out....
nothing much can be done there IMHO.

They ride well, grip well and yes, the rear levels off a bit but plenty of tread as mentioned above.
I had the continental Ultrasport before that, no problems.

Love GP's. I've been riding them since they were GP3000's. And tragically, that isn't even a joke.

"The only time tire rotation is appropriate on a bicycle is when you are replacing the rear tire. If you feel like taking the trouble, and use the same type of tire front and rear, you should move the front tire to the rear wheel, and install the new tire in front."



He does not advocate moving the rear tyre to the front. New tyre on the front, front to rear, and old rear binned is OK.

Are those diamante pro lights durable, I'm guessing they are your race tyres?
Have you tried sram clusters? I reckon they shift better than shimano for the same price, pg1050 or 1070.
