Build Your Own Unicycle?

I thought I'd post this link here as it might be of interest to Colin Old and Cranky and perhaps others.
I saw that Brad at Atomic Zombie had come up with some do it yourself unicycle plans. A standard and a Giraffe.

So how do you think it would go? Would it be worth the trouble of building?

I built my first uni in year 8 at High school. My first Giraffe a few years later. I have built quite a few over the years for myself, and for and with students in my metalwork classes. It aint hard.

Yes, certainly looks easy enough.
Quite neat the way hed done the hub and axle and even the seat being a home brew. That interested me because I suspect it might not be easy to get a proper Uni seat.

Next problem is whether a 70+ year old can learn to ride it without breaking bones.

When you consider how inportant that precise geometry is for even the most basic k-mart special two wheeled "proper" bike in order to get something that will track properly, putting a unicycle together would have to be a doddle. Fixing an axle to the wheel hub would be about the only thing outside of basic cutting, welding and grinding I would think. And in the case of a giraffe even that would not be an issue.

I haven't looked at the links yet but I am curious to see what problems, if any, that diy builders have experienced.
