Shimano 105 5700 with Ultegra 6700?I am currently running shimano 105 5700 and am looking to upgrade the gear to ultegra 6700 and wondered if anyone can tell me if I can use the 105 shifters with ultegra 6700 derailleurs (front and rear), as the process will have to be done in stages.
Re: Shimano 105 5700 with Ultegra 6700?Works fine. I've done it.

+1 Don't believe shimano tech it has been proven to be BS so many times it amazes me that people still refer to it. Shimano lie to look after themselves and increase sales. I won (but was never paid I put my 6700 rear derailleur on his BMC with 7900, worked fine. Took the 9 speed Tiagra rear derailleur off of my commuter, put it on his BMC with 7900, amazingly it worked fine! Took the 8 speed 2300 off of a very 'not happy about this and you will pay for any breakages' wife of a fellow riders hybrid and put it on his BMC with 7900 and even more amazingly it worked fine! Still waiting for my $100 Guess I will take if off of my next service bill!
Re: Shimano 105 5700 with Ultegra 6700?As with most of the brands, if you buy Shimano components from the same era that run the same speeds they'll typically be compatible.
Cheaper models will be heavier -- although with some components like chains even that's debatable -- and might not run quite as smoothly but should work just fine. Cheaper Shimano usually takes longer to reach the market than the more expensive models. Shimano typically release Dura Ace one year, Ultegra the next, 105 the year after and Tiagra after that, and then start at the top again the following year. byke.com.au - Find the cheapest cycling gear from your favourite stores
