wanting to buy cheap alloy frame. Ribble only option ?

Postby serenitynow » Fri Nov 02, 2012 12:24 pm

hey everyone

my old faithful ride of four years has died.. frame cracked at bottom bracket

most components are new, and I just want to source a cheapish alloy frame to get going again.

are there any local options ? even overseas all I really see is Ribble.. their frames seem to be ok from what I read. I can get a curved sportive frame, forks and headset landed for $460. If I go with the box standard alloy frame it would be $100+ less.

anyone been down this road ?

If a 52.5 or 58.5 would work for you...

http://www.this link is broken/Mode ... elID=28790" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Remember that you might need to get a new headset and fork. My Giant OCR2 had a non standard sized fork, so when the frame broke I had to get complete frameset + headset not just the frame.

EDIT: Check out the other pro-lites at c r c. Postage is free to Oz as well - unlike Ribble IIRC.

Just minutes ago got permission from the dearly loved wife to replace my cracked frame with a Ribble sportive frame. Extras will be seatpost, stem and handlebar... Everything else I can move across.
I looked at the other options quoted in this thread but will give Ribble a go. So far I haven't heard any horror stories about their frames....

What, not even considering the Pro-Lite? Note the member that recommended it is from Pro-lite - that'd give you extra peace of mind if anything goes wrong (being local too of course). That Cuneo looks the goods for $299!

Yeah, I know, it's your choice...

considering he could get a frameset for $120 (locally too) and stated cheap in his title, $300 for just a frame seems a little high

Even at a catch rate of 1 in 10, it's still easy marketing for Deon. :)

I like the look of the pro-lite.. it is in the ball park.. I guess when I mean cheap, I just mean *not* a multi thousand dollar frame..

Take it easy smarty, OP said he decided on the Ribble, which he states is $460, admittedly with fork and headset.

The Ribble frames are hard to go part for value-for-money. I have one of their Winter frames, it's amazingly good quality for the price. But I was very tempted by the pro-lite, I was just so skint at the time that it wasn't competitive. One thing to watch with the Ribble frames though, is that they are not 'square', they tend to go for shorter TT relative to ST - suits me fine because I have long legs, but isn't the "standard" for most frames.
I ride, therefore I am. But don't ride into harm's way.

It should suit me too. Being short of reach, finding a short enough ETT is usually a problem.

Thanks guys - I'm not greedy and don't need ALL your business, most of it will do :-)

The Cuneo in XS is a 1048g frame - pretty awesome when you consider 1. the price and 2. its made from alloy. I don't have every size in every frame in stock though.

I have the OP's size in stock on the Cuneo GP and Bella GP. Cuneo GP is in the price ball-park I believe with a fair bit better spec so fingers crossed the sale comes our way.
