Hi all
I was changing the FD cable on my Athena 11 speed and had taken out the old cable. When I put the new cable in the shifters would not move the cable up or down. On looking at it, the part where the cable end sits (and holds the cable end) was not visible through the hole where the the cable goes. It seems to have moved about 90 degrees out of sinc. I fiddled around with it for a while but couldn't get it back to where it needs to be to hold the cable. I hope I haven't missed some obvious solution. I'm not too keen on delving into the innards if the shifter because it is still under warranty.
Any ideas?
Cheers
Roger

Did you make sure the shifter was in its lowest position (small chaining) when you inserted the cable? Are we talking about the pre2010 ultrashift version or the 2011 onwards powershift version?

As per unfm's suggestion it may be easier to pull the cable out, click the thumb shifter until it don't click no more, then rethreading the gear cable. Just make sure you don't poke out the little o-rings.

Thanks folks. It's the Powershift version - only a few months old. The shifter is definitely in the position for the small front chain ring when I try and insert the cable.
The thing which holds the cable moves in a circular motion as if shifting the forwards and backwards (i.e. from small to large chain ring position) but in comparing the visible inner parts of the left with the right shifter it seems that the thing which holds the cable is in the wrong position and won't pick up the cable.
Yeah I found out about those little brass coloured O- rings (20 mins on my hands and knees with a magnifying glass).

Did you try to keep clicking the thumb shifter? That should bring the insertion point into line.

Being a persistent (stubborn) individual I kept playing with this for a couple of hours last night and got it sorted. To be clear, despite clicking the thumb shifter as far as it would go, I still couldn't engage the cable.
By moving the thumb shifter very slightly in its mid-range of motion and moving the cylinder which holds the cable with a jewellers screw driver, I was able to realign the cable holder. Seems to work fine now. I'm doing Amy's ride in Adelaide with it today so I'll see how it goes.

Nice work, I like it when some futzing around solves the problem
