The Rumours are false

Postby heavymetal » Fri Feb 09, 2007 9:29 am

Contrary to any false rumours that Richard may have been spreading about me :D

I have not left the country,
I have not given up cycling,
I did not ride out into the desert looking for 20 cents that I heard that someone had dropped,
I did not wreck another bike,

but I did what some of you do, and

went on holiday... :D

I have some nice photographs of some sand dunes.

No, but a local told me that a madman on a fixed wheelie with flat tyres in the sand from SA beat me to it. :D

I found the 20 cents! It is stuck on the front of the headtube of an old road bike I picked up the other day! Will post a pic later to show you.

I have no idea of the story behind this 20cents. To make it a lucky fast bike perhaps? Was thrown out near where I live and has the coin stuck on the front and the whole bike has been repainted silver with one of those cheap spray cans. I suspect some young kid who didnt like the colour of it?

So I've just spent weeks riding around in the desert looking for 20 cents that had already been taken.

Tell us about your desert trip Kev. Don't mind Tuco, he doesn't read anything over a paragraph long

Like I said up the top, it's a false rumour about me riding around in the desert looking for 20 cents. :D

However, I did go for a holiday and went up north to visit BicycleWA headquarters, where I saw Australia's largest collection of new and used friction shifters amongst other things.

I returned home with a brand new pair of Shimano friction shifters still in the bag with a $8.95 price tag on. These are an ancient high quality set that have the click feeling to them. I'll post some photos once I take them.

I also returned with a genuine set of bicycle streamers, that I have to mount to the handlebars. I'll post some photos of the streamers on the touring bike shortly.

I saw many other amazing bicycle things, but they are a well kept secret

I did venture out into the big dunes. I went sandboarding and did the 280 foot dune at 80 km/h a couple of times. The hard part was walking back up the dune.

And before anyone asks - I cheated :D and caught the bus north

I might be mad, but not mad enough to ride north and back in the middle of summer in 47 degree heat. The heat has been worse in Perth than up north and the wind patterns have been all over the place.

With the drought, most of WA looks like a desert.

Riding at night going north is a bit dicey with the big road trains. I did it once and won't try it again.

Kev.
