Who else braved the wet?

Our group of six or seven ended up with only two people keen enough to head out at 5:30am for the 100km Moreton Bay loop in the rain. Usually we pass hordes of cyclist - I think I saw three. The bike was full of water upon my return and took ages to clean - not to mention the road grime of myself! I still have road grime in my eyes....

Who else braved the wet and how did you go?

not me - stayed home and read cycling mags and planned next trip - will have to ride twice as far tomorrow

we didn't exactly do a morton bay loop of 100kms but did a good 35ks for a riverloop. i think we saw 3 cyclists in total...whats with all the people being scared of the rain... its only water FFS...

143kms and around 1900m up.

Didn't see anyone else out at all.

Not me. I worked out a while back that a three hour ride that requires 2 hours of cleaning isn't a very efficient use of my time.

What's more... It's super bad for the bike running gear. I've also noticed that its more dangerous than dry riding... Slippery surfaces, hidden hazards, poor visibilty, and brakes that aren't optimum.

Yep, some time you get caught but as a rule I won't ride in the rain if I've a choice. Only exception would be organized rides that I've committed to.

It just doesntveain enough in QLD to be worth it IMHO

Commuting is another thing though ....

I missed the retro ride due to prior committment but rode from Kuraby to Kenmore from about 9.30 in the heavier stuff. Thought I better take the bikeway because of the poor vis and lone rider. First freeway underpass at Buranda had all this fine clay washed across the track and both wheels started to lose forward momentum in favour of sideways-I was lucky to stay upright. Second underpass was almost axle deep in water. Also saw only about three other riders. Nice and cool at least.

Agreed. I was on my way to Ikea around 9am yesterday and it was raining really heavy. Visibility was poor and was thinking I'm glad I'm not on the bike as cars would have trouble seeing me. Talking about commuting time to get my fenders on my commuter as I really do hate cleaning my bike after the rain.

I have a white bike so it ended up on being brown by the end - not to mention my face! All day I had road grime in my eyes. It was good to get in the practice. It did take me a couple of hours to clean the bike and get all the grit out of the chain and cassette.

Nope, didn't ride, went to the coffee shop as usual though, saw three of the Data three guys there in kit...yesterday was for ducks!
I'd only cleaned my bike on Friday after getting caught in rain the day prior while riding out the back of Noosa, wasn't keen to repeat the process...

Yep, ventured down to byron bay for the rainbow ride. the rain eased up during the ride, but the wind was relentless.

Did Mt Glorious Sunday morning not that wet

I headed off for my usual Sunday run of 90km. It was blowing a gail and hills that i normally spin down at 60km/h I had to pedal down hard and only managed 25km/h, that is down a 5% grade

I seemed to be the only sod out there at 5:00am, saw no one else.

the rain doesn't bother me too much once i get going, but i do agree that it is too dangerous for road riding. Especially wen the wind blows you sideways when you don't expect it, into a car lane
