hobart-strahanI have dreamed of being able to ride this route, i wonder how long this would take, and would it be even possible. Would be interested in doing it this summer if i can get a group together and a support car, maybe turn it into a charity ride. would be epic! Im not sure how much climbing would be involved, but i imagine a bucket load!!!!

Re: hobart-strahanI reckon we should make this happen, New Norfolk to strahan is 230km of some epic riding with a bit of climbing in there. I am guessing this would be similar to the three peaks challenge in vic. lets set it down for march, we just need a support driver for the trip! a group of about 10 would be good, not to big for the roads and enough to have a break every now and again.
so far we have. Iain Barry ![]()

Barry, Taxman has always been a problem Second question:- Who in hell is Mark B?
Re: hobart-strahanLovely scenery along the way but just be extra-careful of those fast moving logging trucks on narrow and winding mountain roads. High visi clothing is a must as a lot of the mountain roads are shaded with obstructed corners and cyclist visibility can be a problem for the drivers (both trucks and cars).

If only....... More likely to see a tree hugger or Tasmanian Tiger
Re: hobart-strahanmaybe other options
the Audax Dash, 210kms with over 2000ms of climbing the annual orford ride the Grand Fondo or maybe ride the loop around Port Arthur when do we stop for coffee???
Re: hobart-strahanHi guys. Don't want to be a bearer of bad news - but - Hobart to Strahan is 300kms. New Norfolk to Strahan is 265kms.
If you want to join others in the process there is a Police charity ride that covers the west coast - you could pick them up and ride back with them. there is also the Ronde in february where the first two days takes you from Hobart to Zeehan via Strahan. For mine this road is one of the magic riding experiences. The climbs are reasonably easy - apart from Wayatinah hill - and the scenery is amazing. The descent down off Victoria Pass has to be one of the best going around and the trip along the shores of Lake Burbury is just stunning. You might have guessed that I like this ride. Log trucks - not these days and rarely west of Norfick. Sports cars and motor bikes driving too fast - yep. My strategy - make sure you aren't the last rider on the road!!!
Re: hobart-strahan4 of us are riding from Strahan to Hobart over two days, after the Pure Tasmania Cycle challenge in March; looking forward to it!
Re: hobart-strahan

Re: hobart-strahanThe ride is tough (especially with a 8kg pack on your back!) but do-able... lotsa climbing.
Day 1 Strahan to Tarraleah... 178km.... 3940m climbing. This day was the highlight... Day 2 Tarraleah to Hobart.... 130odd? Mainly downhill; so uphill from Hobart direction. ![]()
Re: hobart-strahan
